My son plays almost every sport and there is a fee for them all. Little league is 75 bucks.. Then you have the added cost of a Helmet,Bat,Bag,Glove,Batting glove, Glove etc. Every kid I have ever coached has had their own of each of these items. Gone are the days where a coach dumps out 1 batting helmet and a few balls. The only thing supplied is catchers gear and that is so ratty most coaches buy a set of their own. Football we already discussed.. Basketball was 50(you get to keep your Jersey).. Keep in mind this is grade school age kids. Im not sure what happens at the middle/high school level.
Id say Baseball ends up being the most expensive.. Oddly enough my sons favorite sport is Boxing which is Free at the PAL Club.
Oh and another Tidbit the roughest sport where I have seen the most injuries is 2nd grade Flag. The kids are just old enough to want and know how to tackle so they are smashing kids while wearing no pads. It was a nightmare

Stats say gymnastics and football. More serious injuries the older, bigger and faster the athletes.
Martial arts, boxing, are dangerous but surprisingly safe in contrast to appearance.
Concussion risk of course most worrisome injury. The "small" unnoticed harm, repeated, cumulative, is now the focus of research.
Even soccer players are showing up as at risk in studies.

Yea I am big boxing fan. I think if done right it helps not only with every other sport but also with focus, will power, dedication etc. My son has been boxing for two years he has only sparred a handful of times and has had 1 match. I think its another one of those sports where as you get older and stronger there is more reason to worry. He has never had any injury in Boxing other than being sore from training which he does two to three times a week. Baseball gave him a black eye and a broken finger.. Football gave him a mild concussion. I read an article the other day and soccer is flying up the list of sports in % of concussions. The article stated that girls soccer now has a higher % of concussions than football.

It was a nightmare From our experiences, youth hockey and gymnastics were the two most expensive sports for the kids. The main cost is facilities cost, then coaches. The facilities cost generally covered liability insurance.
