In his seminal book, Good to Great, Jim Collins asserts in the opening that "Good is the enemy of Great". I would extend this further to say Apathy and Mediocrity are close cousins to Good.
It only takes a little bad "luck" to become a middling mess like we are today. And then dreaded apathy sets in. That is where I'm at. I didn't follow the game this weekend as we had other pressing plans. And, upon seeing the final score, looking at the box, and reading the comments I find myself saying....meh, who cares? I know I shouldn't feel that way but when Lucy pulls the ball out from Charlie Brown every time and he falls flat on his back, don't you wanna just grab ole CB and give him a shake and say she is NEVER going to let you kick the ball, bro! Give it up.
That is us. It comes down to this basic belief. Do you believe after 6 years that James Whitford has demonstrated and is capable of recruiting a championship roster and coaching/leading them to a title? And, further up the ladder, do you believe this administration from the BOT to the President to the AD are committed to winning championships, which is a mindset that requires financial investment? I've come to the conclusion that the answer to question one is a solid no. I am up in the air on question #2 but the results and the reality say no.
Baseball team had their opening practice last week. Go Coach Maloney and the diamond men of BSU!

My impression of the current Basketball program is Whit has peaked. He is not the coach that is going to take a team to the NCAA. Can we win Division titles with him? Probably have to say possible because no one in the West cares any more than us or will put more money into it. That is as good as he is going to be able to do.Is that good enough to keep him employed? Not to me but the majority of alums & the AD may feel differently.

Yessir.
And I too was thinking about baseball this morning. Hope they have a great season. I’d look forward to football, but....

Someone once equated whit to Stan Joplin at Toledo. Nice regular seasons. Occasional West “title” but zippo MAC tourney/post season success. But he kept his job a long time because he won just enough. That’s Whit. He’ll keep winning just enough. (But with the direction this season has taken he might end up .500 or less this year.) But, people will talk about injuries and luck and give him a pass. The rest of us will continue to lose interest.

I am going to stick with them, unless Whitford is given another extension, then you can color me gone.

Every November I'm Charlie Brown thinking, "this time I'm gonna kick that ball to the moon!" and by January or February I'm lying on my back.

Be strong. Like Snoopy. Stay in the moment. Enjoy it when you can.

What we need is someone who believes failure is not an option and will let us kick the football, not a candy-ass like Whitford who's just going to tell everyone to keep trying.

Yessir. And I too was thinking about baseball this morning. Hope they have a great season. I’d look forward to football, but.... I’ll be in Charleston to watch the first of March. They will already have 7 games under their belt. Always eager to see how the new pitching recruits look.

I'm hearing the pitching will be phenomenal. The hitting, errrr, might be a different story. Good pitching will beat good hitting. We’ve tried it the other way with not enough success. Hope to meet the new parents and gparents in the Holy City on March 1st/2nd. Cardinals normally bring cold weather our way when they show. Hope this year is finally different.
