Beard should cash in now even if he stays at TT with his salary doubling. Take the UCLA job if offered. If it is a bad fit they will pay you off & get another job.

And Cronin probably got more than he was offered originally. He’ll bring hard nosed basketball out there but will the fans care?

And Cronin probably got more than he was offered originally. He’ll bring hard nosed basketball out there but will the fans care? That is the question, and whether if he pleases fans with the top recruits he can get them to play that way.
Alford could not really get his teams to play the way he wanted. And the good players, better than he ever had elsewhere did not really fit, too often. The fans at UCLA grudgingly supported Alford as long as he brought in blue chips, early out to the NBA. But of course none of those early out players were really defensive standouts. That could be a problem for Cronin. Those recruits almost always want to "showcase" their offense. Will be hard to recruit to the system and probably harder for him than working with the players he has had for them to adapt to it. On top of that the kind of culture takes a year or two to develop and players need a couple of years to become good defensive players.
Cronin and also Beard probably had a better chance to build their kind of program in places off the radar as top programs. Beard at TT for sure had the chance to do that out among the tumbleweeds, then was able to get a couple of transfers and had a player develop into an NBA player on top of it to get over the top for a glorious run.
Cronin has been consistent, shown repeatability, but again It ain't Westwood, he was able to be the boss, and did not have a lot of the distraction that drives coaches nuts in LA.

How long do you think it took the agent for NKU's John Brannen to contact Cincinnati ?

How long do you think it took the agent for NKU's John Brannen to contact Cincinnati ? Is there a speed faster than immediately? Ludicrous speed?

Looks like Alford will be named the new coach at Nevada.

As some of these new head coaches are named at the big programs, they really need to take a close look at the MAC head coaching ranks to populate their staffs.

Just heard a rumor that a MAC head coach is likely leaving to join Mick Cronin at UCLA. Guy wouldn't tell me who, but I don't believe it's Whitford. I think it's one of the Michigan Schools.
