Just finished watching the game. Some thoughts before I read through everyone else's posts...
- The game production looks very nice. Very professional. Am extremely happy to have all of the home games available in this format. - With announcer kid and Eha doing the TV broadcast, who's doing the radio side? - Well, lookie there. Teague is on the bench in sweats. Imagine that. Now... can we stop alleging that the kid has flunked off the team or otherwise gotten in trouble? It's gotten a bit ugly and unbecoming, IMHO. - After a slowish start, things really came together nicely... Bo (17 pts, 12 rebounds) and Frances (12 points, 3-4 3pt) had great games, with solid contributions from Sellers (13 pts, 10 rebounds) and Smith (6 assists to 2 turnovers). - Also thought Moses and Wells played pretty decent inside to complement the returning inside players. - Really would like to see Tyler and House settle into an offensive rhythm. - Jeremiah had kind of a rough game, with 1-8 shooting and struggles guarding that little guy, but his (and Smith's) slashing and kickouts will help our offense. - Nine turnovers to 12 assists is better. - I only remember one rushed at the shotclock buzzer shot the entire game. We were good for a dozen of those each game last year (OK, maybe an exaggeration, but it seemed like that many watching). - Tons of rebounds. +11, and 18 orebs. If only we could finish the bunnies on those flurries of offensive boards. - Offensive flow was better (discounting the first portion of the game). Better motion and a lot less fouls on screens as compared to Bradley. - Sellers needs to continue to take it to the rim. Like seeing that aggression from him. - EIU was obviously not a great team, but I don't really think they were a worse team than Bradley. Nice to see a much better effort this game, and extremely nice to get the losing streak officially retired. - I almost turned off the game the first time I heard "the harm." I hoped that that would be retired to the annals of history this year, but alas...

EKU tournament could build some W's. Three straight games will be tough this early in a season. EKU 226, Longwood 256, SC State 329 The long awaited confrontation with the Lancers. Finally. I thought we'd never play them

It's gotten a bit ugly and unbecoming, IMHO. Unbecoming of a college sports message board ? Is that even possible ?

So maybe Bradley is not so bad. Yeah they only lost by 30. On road vs top 10 team. Played even first half. No surprise.

Could only watch the first half. Congratulations to the Cardinals for breaking the losing streak. It is no fun when you never win. Memo to the Kid: Looking at my crystal ball, I see thirteen more victories.

Memo to the Kid: Looking at my crystal ball, I see thirteen more victories. 13, 14, 15 or more, and how many should come down to a few last minute shots, or even who we draw in the MAC tourney. Kid and the bet will be high suspense right to the end. Is the bet won on the basis of a one point win @bradley? Will the Cards upset anyone? As the world turns, we will discover the answer.

Last night had several technical issues that went mostly unnoticed on-air, but it was a struggle to get going. And don't forget, the bulk of the crew is made up of students, and they really performed well. The camera work was the best I've seen from students, they were on it. Jeff Weller is calling the game on radio.

We could do better on the radio.

Just able to watch the replay on ESPN3.
Are Sellers and Davis living together, because whatever Davis has I believe Sellers has caught. It's been a while (well, the Billy Taylor era) since I saw a kid with a reputation as a shooter lack such confidence from the perimeter. It's great that he's rebounding and still doing some scoring inside, but I think we really need him to hit from outside. As for Davis, I gotta figure that he plays the same way in practice and that he must hit a higher percentage, otherwise the coaches would be telling him not to shoot, right? Even when his shot does go down, it manages to hit every aspect of the rim.
I'll go ahead and make a general declaration that Moses will be a serviceable MAC big man, but on one play last night he was really forcing it to the right. I'm assuming that's his dominant hand, but if he can't go left he'll be offensively neutralized pretty quickly.
Bo, on the other hand, gets the award for the "most beautiful drop step followed by a 2-foot miss," which fit in perfectly with this team last night. Would love to have seen a shot chart of that game. 20 of our 35 misses must have come within 5 feet of the basket.
So far, I do like the way the guards go the boards and the turnover numbers have been pleasant.
Overall, an expected, but nice, win for the Cards.
Hope they can play at least that well at EKU.

I'm not too concerned with who starts, but I was very impressed with Moses for his second college game. Young man needs to get stronger, but he is a keeper.

Observations from watching a jerky, low-res stream on ESPN.
If you want to dream about championship contention and best case scenario, I think it would look like this:
Moses/Wells providing bulk, fouls and rebounding Calhoun being a legitimate post scoring threat Webber or Tyler being 1 of 2 perimeter shooting threats on floor Sellers being other perimeter threat and developing all-round scorer Smith being a competent point who can score just barely enough to keep defenses honest House good all-around 6th man Kiapway depth for perimeter Charleton Heston bearded Moses pic gets posted in every game thread.
If you want to get giddy over one game, then that's the way to go. I'm not saying I believe it, but that's the dream vision.
I don't see the appeal of Davis. He has not shot well for several seasons.
EIU was obviously ready to stop Sellers from hurting them from outside. This will probably happen all year. It was encouraging that he made them pay by driving and scoring a couple times. BSU took charge of the game when Kiapway provided the second outside threat. Two outside threats are greater than two times one outside threat. I can't see playing Davis over a 2nd outside threat....only some back-up minutes at point.
Moses. He is much more ready than I thought. I was sure he would have to redshirt. He seems to have lowered his body fat quite a bit - he looked doughy in HS but now looks positively rangey....in low-res streaming anyway. The beard!
Tyler is too good to be playing like this. Hope he gets over that soon.
I was good with Calhoun shooting 3's last year when there was no Webber, no Tyler, Kam was lost and our best offensive threat was a game-to-game headcase, Turner. I would prefer to think we have moved beyond that futility.

Good job, General. Although, you may be making the beard and facial hair factor a little too important in player evaluation.
I agree in large part with you, a little different.
House, Calhoun, one has to be on the court to score mid range and near basket. Davis, Smith, only one at a time, to defend handle the ball and score going to the basket, hit outside once in a while. Tyler and Kiapway, we need one who is shooting well, if one is then we can have 3 good shooters on the court much of the time Sellers and Weber one always has to be on the court. At center we need a blue collar somebody who can rebound, defend, expected to be a relative scoring weakness. Calhoun and House can play in a pinch. Moses quickly developing would be the dream result.
Bo, Sellers, and Weber are very versatile and can play several roles. We might want to see all three along with House and Smith and have 5 guys 6-4 to 6-7.
Disregarding facial hair, strengths are Sellers, Weber, Bo, and House. Better slightly than expected Smith, Moses, Kiapway. Main disappointments Davis, Tyler and Wells. Unknown, Teague. Not much expected, Gill and Rocco.

It does not surprise me that Bradley loses big but for five Freshman to hang around the first half suggests maybe they are not that bad...they may do better in conference than predicted.
Obviously, the kid was pleased to get a win and even the record to be exactly on pace for 15 wins!!!!
I thought we were below average in the first half but our depth and play got to EIU in the second half. Davis was 1-8 from the floor and he simply has not shown thus far that he can handle the ball and create as many assists as Smith can. Unless he can find his shot and improve his assists greatly he would find limited minutes from the bench. Smith appears to take good shots and only when necessary but really sees the floor well...he's a playmaker!
Kipaway really gave this team a boost and should find more minutes as a result.
