That’s concerning about Call because he’s a really good hitter.

Plesac gets win #7 & while his last 2 innings were not great his line for 5 2/3 innings looks good giving up a run on 4 hits & 2 walks. He fanned 5 & got his 6th pick off.

That’s concerning about Call because he’s a really good hitter. Word is that Cleveland's "zone" approach to hitting has really messed with his confidence and set him back. Too many metrics in sports today. Of course good data is important and helpful, but good players need to mostly just play.

Making a player aware of the zones and his, and the pitcher's, tendencies towards those zones is one thing, but when you handcuff a hitter by having him look for only certain pitches is another.

Just to add to the griping about the way baseball is play, it should be against the rules to call pitches from the dugout. I still can’t stand watching the catcher turn his head away from the field of play between every pitch. Do your job and teach the game!

Im forwarding this second handed.....but .....a friend of my brother came up thru the Cardinal organization and said “until you get to AAA, almost everyone is working on some “new” thing they’ve been assigned from the coaching staff”. He said single A was crazy because ALL the pitchers were working on a new pitch and you never knew where the ball was coming from when you were at the plate.

The Akron Rubber Ducks ended their season last night. Alex Call finished the year at .205
Hillsboro Hops start their playoff series tomorrow night. If my count is correct, Drey Jameson should get the start.

tarheel…… appreciate your having started this thread and hope that maybe you can do so much earlier in the season next year.

Check some of the other threads. I’ve reported on all three of these guys almost every game. Alex wasn’t playing early in the year and Drey signed late and participated in a “short season” league.

Even though Drey has pitched very few innings the entire team's pitching staff was treated that way. They had over 20 pitchers on the staff. Michigan's Tommy Henry the star who got them to Omaha got into 3 games & pitched 3 innings for Hillsboro. Avery Short age 18 from Southport pitched 8 innings in 7 games. I don't know how it will work but the staff was certainly not over worked. We will see where those pitchers are in a couple of years to see if their method is helpful for more than a restful season.

Hillsboro won their league so that says their method works but since MLB pitching staffs are not going to carry 20 pitchers lets see how well their prospects progress & if a larger number reach the majors.
