After watching the first three games, this looks like the same old same old to me. All this talk about how we're more talented, I don't see that it has translated to the on the court product. I'm rooting for Kid to win his bets, but if we don't win the next two this weekend, I think he is in trouble.

The EKU guy on their feed also says "the harm".
As I thought all summer, we have to hit 3's to be any good at all. What other strengths do we have to rely on? I had been thinking we would need around 10 made 3's to beat decent teams, depending on the pace. But we have 12 tonight and are losing to a team at the low end of decent or maybe the high end of bad. It is a fairly fast paced game. But you notice how our good streaks were all around made 3's and when we weren't hitting threes the points came very slowly. Maybe we need to target 15 made threes as the standard.

Exactly. We are no different other than we can score a little more. Still can't defend or hit fts. Until that defense is fixed, every team we play is going to feast at the line. Tough to beat even halfway bad teams when they're getting almost a third of their points from the free-throw line. |

I think what we have seen so far is losses to 2 teams that are about equivalent to lower tier MAC teams and a victory over one that couldn't compete in the MAC. If don't beat SC State and Longwood it will be very disturbing.
We still don't have a point guard. Teams that can are going to pressure our guards all season and we'll have even a shorter shot clock to try to work our offense.
I was more pleased with the passing game once we got past half court at least early in the game last night. Most of our guys still throw lazy passes that can be easily picked off. Weber's passes are much crisper than most of our guys and it was very noticeable. Few of our guys move toward the the ball when it is passed to them, instead they just stand their flat footed and wait for it to get there. I also saw a couple bounce passes last night which was good. If you listen to Whitford yelling from the sideline you know these are all things he wants them to improve on. Still they are elementary fundamentals and are hard habits to break.

Stopped by the package store yesterday and bought a bottle of this: www.thepartysource.com/express/item.php?id=42529Belle Meade Private Barrel bottled at 108 proof and soon to be extremely hard to get. My thinking was it would make a great way to pay off that bet with the Kid, if needed. I cracked it open midway through the second half. It is great and the Kid really missed out on this one. |

Our D does suck but not as much as our offense. Motion?? Rarely see any screens and our size is totally wasted by having guys out from the paint or guards unable to make a bounce pass to them inside. Agree with UJim in that are fundamentals suck. Davis has not improved his game since high school----why does he shoot so much? I haven't seen any improvement from last year in our alleged offense. Where is the coaching?

How can you think EKU is "the low end of decent or maybe the high end of bad" given that EKU won the OVC East Division last year?

Because the OVC is not good. Other than Belmont and maybe Murray State, it's a collection of teams that live in the 200s in terms of rankings.
Even the MAC ranks a little higher.

Last year EKU was 21 – 12 overall and one of those wins was over Miami (Fla.) by a score of 72-44.
The year before that EKU was 24 – 10 overall, and the year before that 25 – 10 overall.
You seem to like Belmont University and Murray State University – EKU beat those two programs 5 times over the past 3 years. Also, EKU has not been in the 200s in terms of rankings during those 3 years.

The only real question here is why I bother responding to people who are ignorant of the basic facts.
