EKU has reloaded! Right now EKU is leading the OVC in; SCORING OFFENSE (91.4 points), FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE (53%), and 3-POINT FG PCT (45%). This week they plan to start working on building an equivalent defense (best in the OVC). This week EKU swept the weekly Ohio Valley Conference awards as wing Jarelle Reischel was voted both the Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week and forward Nick Mayo was voted the Freshman of the Week. Also, this week JaVontae Hawkins has been named the National Mid-Major Men's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
The point is – great teams reload!

Great is a relative term! But, I think this is great – EKU is the highest scoring team in the state right now!
EKU – 91.4 U of L – 87.3 WKU – 83 UK – 79.3 Murray State – 77.7
And yes, I do understand competition has a lot to do with those statistics.

lmills72, Look - here's the point. I understand very clearly what you are saying. The question is do you understand what you yourself are saying?
If I take your words as honest and sincere you are telling me that IF Ball State had beat Miami (Fla.) by a score of 72-44 (as EKU did last year) on their home court, you would say that Ball State – “ain't great” and it “doesn't say much”.
And, IF Ball State were in the OVC and won the conference title and went to the Big Dance and came very close to knocking off Kansas (as EKU did a couple years ago) you would say that Ball State – “ain't great” and it “doesn't say much”.

I'm telling you that Miami might have been ranked No. 18 when EKU played them, but the reality is the Hurricanes weren't good enough to make the NCAA tournament.
I'm also telling you that a "great" team does not lose by 6 at Valparaiso, as EKU did last year.
Oh, and BTW, Ball State lost by just 3 at Valpo.
So, I'm sure that by your logic, we were 3 points better than EKU last year, which would have meant that if we had played at Miami we would have beaten them by 30.
Wait a minute, you just convinced me Ball State was a "great" team last year. I don't care if we did lose 17 straight. Man, we were good.

lmills72, in a way I feel a little bit sorry for you. You’re setting yourself up for a lot of disappointment. With your standard of greatness as high as it is Ball State will never meet that standard making you a very unhappy man.

And the OVC still isn't any good. Look, I'm not saying the MAC is. I'm just saying EKU ain't great and dominating the OVC doesn't say much. Isn't that the reality of College Basketball at the mid major level? Dominating the MAC probably means a little more, but it's all relative. Our best BSU team would not have been at the top of the B10. So what? In a very good, exceptional year, we can be a top 30 team, maybe beat anybody on great night. Mostly, we play to beat our conference foes but they are almost always about as good as we are. So that is not easy! The EKU game was not a particularly surprising or bad result for us. They played very well last week, we played well for part of the game, not up to our best the rest of the way. Overall we probably played better in the other games and in those results beat the common foes in a way that makes us look to be EKU's equal. That was in a good week for them. I think we win against them at our place, and should win at theirs if we play our best. I would not trade teams with EKU. I draw very little conclusion from it. Looks like their season thus far suggests they would be a team that could play in the MAC, but not threaten for the title there. Just like us this year. That doesn't make them great or us terrible. Had they not shot so well and we had played better and won, I'd say the same thing. Talk about "great teams" just doesn't apply here unless we consider the level of expected competition.
