Well, I've noticed an increasing number of frogs at my house...

Hate to see the GOAT become the goat.
The only good news is that the Colts look to be a decent team with even an average kicker. They had a half dozen kickers in to try out if V can't get it back together.
The bad news is they aren't going to be anything special unless he is the GOAT and they win every close game. They have already lost one they could have, without any real margin to lose any games that are winnable.

My guess is that if he has another bad game, they put him on IR and then he retires at the end of the season.

Strange that missing extra points might be the biggest sign of his decline. You might think that age would take away your strength and thus range first.
But maybe age takes your aim first. I looked at archery champions for a comparison, figuring that this was something that didn't take a ton of strength, but put a premium on concentration and aim. Turns out that archery world and Olympic champions are typically from 26-32 years of age. Basically the same prime as most other sports.
Sadly, I expect that Vinnie may right the ship to some extent in the short term, but will struggle from here until he gives it up. Hoping it will be otherwise, though.

Physical and mental are related.
No doubt nerve under pressure and the grind to achieve peak concentration after years of competition at the highest level is related to age, and maybe separate from the pure athletic ability which also definitely declines.
But, that physical decline however slight each year adds up to make it harder to keep enough mental edge. As my golf game each year proves.
And, I don't face aggressive, large, fast athletes running at me trying to deflect my putts.

Adam Vinatieri: 1/3 FGs, 2/5 Extra Points You heard it here first. Gee, I’m starting to reach Kid-like heights in my prognostications.

You're also getting kid-like in wearing out your arm patting yourself on the back when you happen to get something right
