Minnesota has quietly rolled to an 8-0 record. Looking at their opponents, their best win is against Nebraska (and this is not your Tom Osborne type of Nebraska, who just lost to IU) at home. Their schedule has turned out to be pretty weak, but if they can win one against Penn State, Iowa, or even Wisconsin, Fleck might be looking at a major payday. Florida State may be looking at him, if they're willing to move on from Willie Taggart.
As annoying as I find Fleck, the guy can coach, and gets players to buy in to the plan. Especially considering the lack of historical success at Minnesota, if he can win there, he can probably win anywhere.

It would be really amusing to find the old threads from when Fleck was new at Western. A lot of ridicule and disdain. But then, BSU football fans have never been the most sagacious group.

He just turned the corner with the program. The fans love him. He's recruiting well. I can see him staying another 4-6 years, just to prove consistency.

That’s probably not fair. His first year I think he won 1 game. Based on your track record I don't see you defending a 1 win coach after a year. Plus a lot of the ridicule is based on his absurd personal behavior, not his coaching. Ever since he’s proven himself I’ve said I think he’s both a good coach and a major doofus. To the extent he was criticized before proving himself you would have not provided any more sagacious insights.

It was mostly the major douchebaggery that we and all the MAC school fans detested. But he can coach. He’s just really punchable.

No, no, no, you guys. The correct response is "Man, were we ever wrong about THAT guy."

No, no, no, you guys. The correct response is "Man, were we ever wrong about THAT guy." That’s also not really fair. My post wasn't saying that “we” (not sure who the we is) weren't wrong about Fleck. It’s that you would have done no better. My post had little to do with Fleck, and more to do with the irony of a guy who would not have supported a 1-win coach criticizing the short sightedness of people who criticized a 1-win coach. Show me the post where you sagaciously defended the 1-win Fleck, or any other coach who went on to success after an embarrassingly dismal opening season and I’ll change my tune.

I don't remember specific posters, but I distinctly remember that Fleck was widely ridiculed on this forum his first year and beyond. And it was quite clear that the ridicule extended beyond his personal weirdness to his coaching ability. "row the boat" was mentioned frequently and derisively.
If you assert that I wouldn't have supported a struggling first year coach, I'd say it's up to you to provide proof and examples...not me. Actually I have been more tolerant of our failed basketball coaches in their early career than what they deserved. I admit that mistake and have learned from it. Because you only look stupider when you refuse to admit an obvious mistake. Hint. Hint.

I specifically pointed out that my post was not saying that "we" weren't mistaken about Fleck. If you assert I was mistaken about Fleck, I'd say it's up to you to provide proof and examples...not me. Because you only look more hypocritical when blasting an entire group for lacking sagacious insights where would have not provided any more sagacious insights. Hint. Hint.
And mentioning row the boat frequently and derisively I would characterize as criticism of his absurd personal behavior. It's a compelling story and all, but to adopt oars and an entire nautical theme into the Western Michigan Bronco football team is absurd personal behavior.

FWIW, I just did a search on my posts with the word "Fleck" in them and stand by everything I've said in them. Unfortunately this board only goes back to 2016. I even admitted being wrong about him in a post from January: "After his first year I thought PJ Fleck was a incompetent moron. Now I just think he's a moron." Remember when Lembo made fun of him in his weekly newsletter, then Fleck started kicking his ass on the recruiting trail and ran up the score on us a couple years later? Good times...

Copycat! Whitford having a feud with someone reminds me of when Lembo roasted PJ Fleck after the first year then got his teeth kicked in from there on out. Good times...
