It is early, but I do not get the attraction of Jeremiah Davis. His shot is no better than it was than when at MCHS. He has always been a driver not a jump shooter, but yet seems to have the green light to shoot the jumper? I like Smith's size but his shot does not impress. Sellers has the stroke and IMO needs to shoot more often than sitting. Kiapway also has a decent looking shot. It is hard to tell a lot of things offensively when we just stand around in an alleged motion set, so maybe when we actually see a motion offense we can gauge shooting better.

Smith and Davis are completely statistically indistinguishable from each other. Shooting from all distances is somewhere between bad and terrible. Mediocre ball handling statistics, nothing like you really want from a point guard. Good rebounding for guards. The biggest difference is that Davis is getting to the line a lot more. I really haven't witnessed enough of Smith's defense to say for sure, but I suspect there is strong similarity there also. I have personally witnessed quick guards dribbling right around Davis on multiple occasions.
I can't see how you would want to ever play these two at the same time. We have enough struggles on offense without that.

I can't see how you would want to ever play these two at the same time. We have enough struggles on offense without that. I think that happened the first few games. Tyler was just not playing well and Kiapway is the less good ball handler and a streaky shooter, not completely predictable. I'd guess the coach was going for fewer turnovers, better defense and planning on using more inside play (against a very small guard in one case). None of that actually worked very well and enter Kiapway who got hot. Our offense will be fine if we can get out and play a little faster, get some open shots on the break, and of course hit the basket. We have shooters, and our inside play is better than most expected in half court. Tyler still seems a bit too unpredictable and undisciplined and not improved on defense, but seems to now have regained the coach's confidence. Surely our best lineup should have Kiapway and Tyler splitting time at one guard, Davis and Smith splitting time at the other guard. All 4 have ample room to improve. Kiapway and Tyler benefit from every minute they are on the floor. Davis and Smith have to be steady, handle pressure, and make others better, and the more the team plays together under pressure, they will look a little better. Davis is better defending the off guard, he pairs up better with Tyler if Tyler gets his head in the game and defends using his quickness. Smith is longer and I think can defend the PG better, but both need the defensive system where there is help at the rim. We have not been good at that, yet. Persons should help improve guard play next year. He is more along the lines of Davis and Smith in being a big guard, but very aggressive player with the ball although not a great outside shooter. Likes contact. On defense more hustle than flat out quickness, and gets up and in the face of his man on defense. Imagine Randy Davis, stocky, not really quick but makes up for it with the hustle, about 30 pounds heavier and 5 inches taller.

I don't see much use of screens and options off screens, more just running plays to get switches and better match ups. Some of that is it looks like we can go inside to both Bo and Franko, so we spend a lot of time doing that as first option. Sellers was our only outside shot, guarded very close the first two games and looked good driving to the basket. Weber can do the same thing, so maybe we are using motion more like Duke where they want to spread the court get them a good match up, leave a big guy isolated down low with a smaller defender?

And maybe a magic rainbow-farting unicorn will gallop onto the court to carry us to victory.
Do you figure that if you keep imagining that we have effective low post scoring that it will eventually appear out of thin air? What half-way decent team is going to have post defenders smaller than our inside scorers? Recruiting has consequences.

Imagination? We have had both Bo and Franko do pretty well inside already. These guys are not in double figures shooting 3's. You really don't get it that the opponent can have bigger defenders but not always have the right match up. You can in some cases bring a big guy outside and leave room for a smaller post man to beat the big guy. Or. What I think we are seeing may be the idea of screening and forcing a switch to force somebody on the post to follow a shooter out into the corner(or leave him wide open since his man was screened) leaving House or Franko close to the basket guarded by the smaller defender who was screened. That's not magic, it's basketball. Pretty much how lots of teams facing bigger opponents have worked it for years. This isn't a one on one wrestling match. Why play that type of post game unless you have the big guys.

If we keep wishing and spinning things to our liking we might be good enough to finish in the top three of the MAC west

I agree though we should not have Smith and Davis on the court at the same time. Im not really convinced Davis needs to be on the court much at all. I like his leadership and respect what he has went through but his play has been very ummmmmmm not good.

I'd pay top dollar to see that during one of the half-time shows.

Somebody has to convince me that we indeed play a motion offense. Professor OOhmh needs to lay off the booze if he thinks we have any resemblence of a Duke motion offense.

I find myself watching Tyler a lot because I think he can be really good. I can count how many time Ive watched him run to a spot a foot behind the three point line and never move again
