Sounds like they are going to be really bad, but who knows. Vegas apparently doesn't know either, as it is a pick 'em right now. Given we are on the road and both teams have a lot of unknowns, I'll take Evansville in a close one, 73-70.

There doesn’t ever appear to be to many gifts on the road; if we win big which I’m not thinking that would be a positive sign

ESPN says Ball State has a 52.6% chance of winning the game!

This game feels like a tossup on paper. BSU is a 1.5 pt dog, but I will say the Cards win 74-72.

Rational analysis says it will be a close game, either way.
I expect this BSU team to start the season slow. Different style of play and lots of players to work with to get to a more stable rotation.
I think we'll be good by conference season, but see too many moving parts to expect early success. I certainly draw almost no conclusions from the Defiance game.
In that game I was disappointed mildly we did not extend defense more to at least half court, but the opposition was not strong so it's a little hard to expect defensive intensity at some point.
Not much surprise from returning players, mostly good news, no bad news. Mallers appears to have his shot back which is good and a major importance. KJ was active, about what I expected. Ish looked pretty steady. Hazen did not seem to be in synch, but looks healthy. Josh is Josh. Huggie was working hard, did not do as well catching the ball as he has in the past, the new faster play with more movement will mean he has some struggles. He has to stay close to the basket, protect the rim, continue to learn how to help and recover. Teague was Teague. That was a bit of a disappointment, I suspect he'll play up to better competition.
As for newcomers, I liked Coleman's play, seemed calm and controlled, Bumbalough showed some promise, did a bit better than I expected as a PG, looked better later, especially when he decided he could/should shoot. Thomas had a poor game, he'll play better, looked nervous. Hendricks looked like a freshman, was athletic but a little lost. Kroft seemed tentative under the bright lights, too.
