Still don't know why Bumb is starting. He plays hard, no denying that, but he's physically limited on defense (short legs = no verticality), and struggles to hit shots that are even slightly guarded. I love his attitude, but he should come off the bench. I cant say I disagree but who else you going to start in that position

I also feel Bumb would be better coming off bench. I would probably try Thompson though not sure it will work. However at a minimum I would cut Bumb's playing time down to 20-25 minutes a game.

He looks like he has no legs on his jump-shot.

Since Walton can't or won't play, your only alternative is to start Thompson again and bring Bumb off the pine. I think he has hit the proverbial freshman wall. At least Bumbalough by law of averages is more likely to knock down 2 or 3 a game versus Josh. Any time Thompson scores I consider it gravy.
But regardless, our bench basically tries to hang on whenever we substitute. Thompson and Hazen are scrappy and serviceable and will occasionally give you something. Acree & Thomas are placeholders most of the time. Just not ready to contribute consistently yet. Truth is, our bench is like every other team in the MAC for the most part. This depth myth is just a pie in the sky fantasy perpetuated by a select few dreamers.
It's interesting to look back at the impact (or lack thereof) of our highly anticipated transfers as KJ nears the end of his spotty career and Hazen with one year left. These two big conference castoffs were crowed and touted as huge additions to our roster and honestly neither has done much. Hard to believe that Walton's stay will end with a whimper and Hazen will be our most experienced frontcourt returnee next season. Oof.

I would prefer to start Acree over Thompson if Bumb moves out of the starting 5. Thompson just doesn't give you anything offensively. Very difficult to get off to a good start if the opposing team only has to guard 4 players instead of 5. Acree at least can score, especially if some coach (yea you Whitford) can convince him to drive to the bucket instead of launching 3-pointers where he currently is hitting 19%. On 2-point shots Acree is successful on 63%. Message to Whitford, 63% good, 19% bad!

Acree and Thomas are beginning to see playing time and are showing positive signs. Acree as guard is doing a good job, good rebounder as well, a good nose for the ball. I like the length of Thomas and not a bad three point shooter. By the way, it’s nice to see Teague being able to hit his threes when left open. Means he has to be guarded - think he is approaching 30% at long range. All this helps as we head into the closing round of the season. if KJ could play, it would be icing on the cake. What universe are you viewing this in? This is ridiculous. We have no quality depth. Here's last game box score. Acree had one basket, one rebound and a turnover. Thomas had 0 points, 0 rebounds. Thompson 2 points and 1 rebound and 1 assist. In the previous game at Western, this trio combined for 5 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. Please tell me you post was sarcasm. In MAC games, Teague is 10-31 from three. Better than his career average but 70% of the time he misses and our best rebounder by a ton is 20 feet from the basket. What a great strategy. A-effing men. Some of these posts are so mind boggling. Thomas was a ghost Tuesday night when he was on the floor.

Would still like to see him play fewer minutes, and still don't think he is a "great" defender. But he does have upside and probably should start. And I hope Ish's closing line is what we see in a few games this year.

I'm not sure I see KJ as a professional player. His weaknesses way outweight his strengths. His athleticism gives him an advantage at the college level and allows him to fill some of our weaknesses, but I don't think it would at any level of professional basketball. Even at the college level he has rarely been able to take advantage of his speed and legendary leaping ability. I just don't see it. Honestly I think he is in the wrong sport. You guys can call me nuts if you want. That's just how I see it. 100% agree. But what his family/advisors tell him might be unrealistic expectations. That’s purely speculation on my part based on what we’ve observed and how evasive Whitford has been about it. I think KJ would be a helluva volleyball player or football player. Imagine him at linebacker or DE. Or WR. But as far as basketball he lacks the skill level in terms of shooting and ball handling to be effective long term. And to be very honest, I’m not sure his basketball instincts are that great. He’s definitely a helluva athlete. He can get you some rebounds and some buckets around the rim. Yeah agree. I was seeing him more as a track and field athlete. I’m sure he could be highly successful as a jumper or 4X sprint runner!

With whits normal rotation were a 7 deep team with Josh and bracken. Do I think we’re just a 7 deep team? No. I just think whits rotations are terrible

Acree played his 4 minutes in the first half if I recall. Thomas and Kroft were put in at the same time in the second half after BSU had fallen 15 to 20 behind and sparked the comeback. At least that's the way I remember it. I would have to watch the game again to be sure and that would be too painful. Putting in Thomas and Kroft was more or less a desperation move when Whitford thought the game was out of reach. You would think Whitford would reward Thomas and Kroft with some more playing time in the next few games, but judging from Whitford's coaching methods, you probably will not see them again.

We've all been enjoying that super depth that was touted so loudly during the preseason. But just wait until the 2020 freshman class is added! We're talking Mariana Trench!
