Acoustics in Worthen are terrible. The dome is designed to be loud, not for clarity. Also wastes a lot on HVAC.

In all seriousness , the dock doesn’t appear to have been designed with multiple big trucks in mind like the big name bands tour with. But it worked out ok when we had concerts those first few years. I think another issue was seating. They didn’t have enough good seats they could sell to generate enough revenue to afford name bands. It was decided emens could accommodate any act that we could afford and attract. We couldn’t compete with Indy and other cities with larger arenas/football stadiums and larger audience bases. And, I had heard there was some concern on the part of the facility manager that concerts would take a toll in terms of wear and tear. Don’t know how much validity there was in that.
We all like to complain a lot but we should also give the BSU administration some credit. Their management of the basketball program has GREATLY reduced the wear and tear on the arena for 20 years now. It's going to last longer than the Roman Coliseum at this rate

I like finding a silver lining like that.

And by wear and tear I meant damage. Those pesky kids standing on seats and what not. It was a conservative group of administrators then in terms of how the building would get used.

That's why you don't see any rock concerts in Emens.
Might as well put plastic covers on the seats like Grandma's sofa.

I think there was quite a bit a damage to seats in Emens after the Charlie Daniels band concert back in 82. Plus Puke everywhere. Chewing Tobacco stains. Lots of smoking. Bsu threatened to quit hosting rock concerts after that.

Hell, you budget each event to cover maintenance from the event. Just sounds lazy. I can understand Delaware/Madison County not being able to feed attendance to justify the use of Emens, but I do know folks in Indy that will drive to Lafayette, Bloomington when particular acts come to town. Heavy advertising might help. You need to educate the public to the fact that there is a quality venue option available in Muncie, that is only 45 minutes away from Castleton/Keystone area. If Worthen has been used in the past, I cannot remember ever hearing in the Indianapolis media of a band, or other act appearing at Worthen. We saw Keith Urban at Worthen. Has also hosted NIN and Sinbad for a comdey show. More I think but I can't recall them.

Bryan Adams. Alan Jackson. John Michael Montgomery. Marilyn Manson. Wynona Judd. Matchbox 20. ( May have been the last one).
I thought those concerts were fairly successful but the philosophy changed.

The philosophy being, "We don't want the unwashed masses of Munsonians sullying our facilities with their rock and/or roll music."

One old married guy brought up a note to the lead singer to read about wife and it turned into a free for all. I just went to hear Dixie Land Delight.

Was Alabama in Emens?

I guess it's a sign of how the university is hurting financially.
What's next? Advertising on the outfield wall at the baseball stadium?
