The deal has been cut and everyone is in on it except the fans.

The crowds have been much more into the games this year. Color me negative, but it's really hard too get excited about playing well for only 7-8 minutes and beating a bad (came in at 5-8) EMU team at home. Again, it was live by the three mantra, and this time we made them in the second half. As for the refs, they missed calls against us too. Coleman gets by with a lot of travels too. I've been really surprised by Coleman's offensive game, but his constant jawing of the refs is getting really annoying. I have been very impressed with the crowd and overall crowd sizes this year. We are averaging almost 5,000 per game. When was the last time that happened?

The crowds have been much more into the games this year. Bigger. Pretty good job with promotions. Team is playing hard, easy to make some noise for that, and leaving arena with a win makes it easier to go back! Do not think we can average a lot more, but some hope. Do not see it happening but imagine getting Butler or IU or PU in here. Could make a buck on a game like that. Regular price dogs...the general here for 2 games in a season! Wow.

Winning at home makes a big difference. We’ve traditionally laid the proverbial egg in this coach’s tenure late in the season so being 5-1 and the comeback yesterday are both factors. The promotions are largely the same. As we’ve all echoed many times, winning cures most ills. Frankly, I thought we were toast at the 10 minute mark in the second half but we knocked down some shots and EMU folded like a lawn chair as they are prone to do when faced with some adversity. It was a gritty win and exciting as heck. I’m not gonna gush too much about it because Eastern is what they always are under Murphy, super athletic but undisciplined and mentally soft. I think we will win on Tuesday vs Western. After that, who knows.

Eastern is perplexing in being a team that is always a challenge with the good zone defense but a very questionable offense. They are best when generating offense off that defense, but if you crack it and score they have such trouble on offense.
What was worrisome yesterday was how well Toure played. When they came out early scoring inside with him and when we helped beating us like a drum on drives to the basket they looked really good. I knew we could tighten up on defense but when they got ahead late in the first half after getting some turnovers it really looked bad, we were in a deep hole. They could play slow down, their regular speed, and it was going to be hard to score quickly on their zone.
Eastern can beat anyone in the MAC with that zone and slow down game if they hit a few shots and turn you over. You have to get out in front of them and adjust quickly against the aggressive D and avoid the turnovers it produces.
They played a little different against us than they have, Whitford has generally done a good coaching job attacking the zone, but the twist they gave it yesterday first half was killing us, our guys out front were not going to get a shot. And. They really were getting back on our guy getting the entry pass at the FT line in the middle of the zone and playing passing lanes well.

They had that game in the bag with 9ish minutes to go, but totally got away from what was working. We had a little to do with that, but they had as much or more to do with it. Their offense is abysmal. They literally waste 2/3+ of the shot clock doing nothing productive that might set them up for a good shot. You really only have to expend any energy on D against them for about 7-8 seconds at most per possession. Yes, you have to defend your home court. It does make a big difference. I disagree with hmh in that I think we can draw even more with better teams. This team is still just mediocre. We had about 6k there yesterday. How many would we have if we were undefeated at home and 13-1 or 12-2 in the MAC? The people clearly want something to root for.

And what if, say, we make it to the tourney championship game or need a win to get there and either due to foul trouble or injury we need him, or maybe we need his particular skill set to win. If he’s in uniform I’m putting him in. Would Whitford? Several times Whitford has said on the radio and in the newspaper that he honors the wishes of the players and their families when it comes to redshirting, regardless of what he thinks. I'm guessing this would fall into the same category.

I'm guessing this would fall into the same category. At this point in the "complicated" situation the cat is essentially out of the bag so I am just going to go ahead and say it. This is never going to be confirmed by anyone but its true.. Kj is 90% healthy he has been for almost 2 months. KJ and his peeps think he has a shot at professional ball so they want him to try and get a medical. The staff has wanted him to play the whole time. KJ has made choice not to play. He does need a scope to clean up his ankle. So does Mallers, So does Hazen and 95% of the football team along with a couple Managers and cardfan. He can do it in the offseason not going to make a difference. Hell Trey and about 35 football players have had it done in season and missed about 4 weeks. So its pretty simple if he is granted the redshirt he will play next year. If he is flat out denied then maybe we see him this year.. The kicker is there is no guarantee he plays here next year. If he chooses to transfer he will be able too.(I did not or have not heard if that is likely or unlikely that is just a possibility)

I don't have any problem with Whitford not playing him. If the kid doesn't want to play, he's more of a liability on the court than anything. But, as others have said, why even the pretense?
I doubt his ability to play professionally, at least here in the states. That would be a seriously long road for him that would require much more than the one additional year that a medical would provide. And, IMO, it would also involve playing someplace other than BSU.
Isn't this the same thing we discussed regarding Teague last year, whether it would be in his benefit to return to BSU or grad transfer someplace else? Taj has had a nice year, but I doubt his professional stock has shot up much. With a well-chosen transfer, he probably could have boosted it more.
IMO, KJ would be better served to finish his collegiate career and get on with professional ball at whatever level he can achieve.

I was told that before the game the General found a player sleeping on the bench. He woke him up and asked what he was doing and the player said he was trying to nap, at which the General,''You are the SOB that knows what he is doing in this building''.

I’m amused that European basketball fans are willing to pay to watch professional teams comprised of mid-major mediocrity while we have to entice people with free parking and $1 dogs.

One of Whitford's comments on the post game radio show was that our spacing was poor in the first half. Ish and Bum too close together. That allowed their zone to not have to move as much and then also plug the middle. Now, I guess they should have seen that earlier, but that is an adjustment that was made at the half to open things up. Seemed to work. Too, we kind of turned up our own defense in the second half which allowed some transition game for us. You're right, when they use their talents and could get some baskets, they could be extremely dangerous and beat anyone in the MAC.
