Cards take an afternoon game from Purdue Ft.Wayne 9-4. Had to be a 🥶 game to watch I watched it. PFW is somewhat improved with the addition of HC Doug Schreiber. He's the son of LaPorte HOF Coach Ken Schreiber, and coached Purdue for 18 years (BIG10 COY in 2012). He doesn't have the same talent yet, but you can tell he has them aggressive on offense. He has a strong conditioning ethic and expects his teams to force mistakes. PFW pitching isn't very deep. Ball State bats started a bit cold. We seem to struggle with situational hitting. In the bottom of 4th, we had men on 1st & 2nd with one out. PFW has a passed ball, advancing runners to 2nd & 3rd. Our LH hitter has two strikes on him, gets a pitch right on the outside corner (close enough for solid contact), and he got rung up looking. Next hitter flies out to deep right. You've given the gift of men on 2nd & 3rd with 1 out, and you take strike three? The bats woke up later in game when some of the weaker pitching came in. Started Weatherly and PFW made good contact with him, plus 3 BBs. Ruestchle came in and threw a solid 6th inning, but PFW got to him a bit in the 7th. Freshman Tyler Schweitzer threw two solid innings to close the game. Pitching combined for 13 SOs, 5 BBs, 0 HBPs and gave up 3 ERs. BSU plays our traditional Pre-MAC 1-2-1 home-away series with Dayton. They're 6-8, and swept NKU (0-16) this weekend, and lost to Morehead, 19-5, yesterday. I hope BSU can sweep Dayton, but usually doesn't happen. I'm hoping for 3-1 to put us at 10-10 by next week.

Pointless now, but this year's series was actually 2 at BSU on Friday and 2 at Dayton on Sunday.
