Thought maybe we could all share ideas on our favorite bourbons to pass the time. I'll start with a little Old Pogue Masters. Fantastic with an ice ball. A little disappointed that the Old Pogue Distillery has cancelled tours due to the Corona Virus. Anyone heard anything about that virus? Share your bourbon preferences with the group.

I like Makers Mark pretty well. And larceny.

Larceny is a great one for the price.
Eagle Rare is probably my favorite mid-range bourbon. Four Roses Single Batch is a close second, along with Bulleit Frontier and Woodford Double Oaked. Knob Creek Smoked Maple is awesome, if you like flavored bourbons.
In a pinch, just some good old Jim Beam is fine.
Ice ball is the only way to drink proper bourbon. And if you put Bourbon in a mixed drink, you're worse than Hitler.

I keep around a big bottle of Evan Williams for mixing and usually some Woodford for sipping.

Four Roses Single Batch is pretty good, and the Jim Beam Single Barrel is pretty good.
I got a bottle of Angel's Envy for my birthday. Really liked it. Let it set a bit longer with the ice.
Makers Mark sends out little Christmas gifts (bar related) to members of the ambassador program. A couple of years ago, they sent out ice ball trays. I stock up on ice balls throughout the year, and always have them ready to go.

I do have Evan Williams on hand but it’s the lower end batch. (The cheapest). I don’t like it as well.

I am a lot less snobby about high and low end liquor after doing some blind taste testing and realizing my ability to distinguish between brands is much lower than I imagined,
I would have no confidence, for example, that I could tell Evan Williams from a high end bourbon when mixed in a whiskey sour or mule. Try it some time. Granted, I think my taste buds have deteriorated somewhat with age, but I am very skeptical of most people's ability to distinguish between brands of liquor. The few people who I have had do blind tests were no better than me. Much of the appeal of high end liquor is watching it come out of that expensive bottle.

I do agree the EW will be just fine if I mix it in something else. I just find it to be a little less smooth than makers or larceny.

What the hell is wrong with you guys, mixing bourbon with other, lesser liquids???
Not a bourbon, but have you tried Jameson's Black Barrel?
Whoa, Nellie!

Can we include scotches as well? Glencadam Origin 1825 Single Malt is probably my favorite from the accessibly priced range. Glen Moray is good. I also enjoy Lagavulin.
If it's just limited to bourbons I usually just go with Makers Mark.
And I'm with lurkin. Neat is the only way to go.

A good strong whiskey sour with lots of ice and minimal sugar on a hot day is something not to be disdained.

What about the folks that prefer Canadian or American whisky? This is discriminatory.
I like Bulleit and a good Old Fashioned.

Glenmorangie for me. 10 year old single malt is considered the “inferior” original version. That is snobbery I can appreciate.

How about some 20 year ole Pappy. Best Bourbon money can buy and I mean lots of money if you can find it. Had a friend who got a bottle through a lottery and I can tell you this stuff is as good as the hype. Blanton’s is also very good but pricey. I personally like Beam Black label. It is smooth and tasty for a $20 bottle of booze.
