If we were smart we'd use COVID-19 as an excuse to cut football. But we're not smart... You will lose a lot of donors Since you seem to know a lot of donors, could you put a number to that please? How much in annual donations do you think we'll lose?

Funny that all these supposed big money football fans leave a $10 million yearly deficit for students to pick up Students are also paying for basketball, so let's take that away as well. I guess trips to Costa Rica will be out the window. Agreed. But what fraction of the football deficit does that represent?

You will lose a lot of donors That’s part of the equation they’ll have to balance. The athletic budget is already stripped totally bare. FB doesn't fund that much of operations from donations. We might indeed have a lot of pissed off donors who had contributed to facilities, pledged to a use they would not see realized.
Would we lose future donations from them outside of FB? Or were they mostly friends of FB?

We'll see what happens if there's a groundbreaking for the indoor football facility. Or if there's not. If not, that money should be returned to the donors.

Most donations are to the general fund though, and not specific to the football program. FBS football is significant exposure. Dropping out would lose donors to BSU.

Most donations are not earmarked to just the football team.

It's not just for football. You're technically correct. The best kind of correct. You can at least admit that you're completely speculating about the loss of donors.

This seems somewhat contradictory. You claim not to be on the inside, yet you know that most donations are to the general fund and not specific to football. If you are nonetheless correct despite having no inside knowledge, I would then tend to group these donors with the likes of smokers who threatened to bring the economy to its knees if smoking were banned in public places. I'm sure some will follow through on their threats, but most will continue their support of the university after they have their hissy fit because they must care about something other than football (otherwise those donations would be earmarked for football).

This is all silly conjecture. If our alums and donors were so hip on FBS football at BSU they would give to support it, and they would show up to games. Given we still have some of the most pathetic FBS facilities (and several FCS schools even have better facilities), our football budget is not competitive, and we are at the bottom of the FBS attendance list every year, I actually believe our constituents have spoken really loudly about how they feel about football at BSU.
Would it piss off the Scheumanns and Venderleys? Of course, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions (that are right, and have been right for at least 2 decades).

Well, I guess we have to keep football because...you know... cutting it would stop all these donations to the general fund. How much? A LOT. How much is a lot? A WHOLE LOT. How do we know this? WE JUST KNOW IT. Why aren't these same people, who are so totally emotionally wrapped up in BSU football, contributing to football directly to lessen the yearly $10 million loss, and bring up the program funding, which is so lacking compared to peer programs? BECAUSE SHUT UP.
Football supporters argue like spoiled, immature 8-year-olds because they a) they don't have a logical leg to stand on and b) they want other people to keep paying for their pastime. It can be aggravating if you let it, but on the positive side, it's extremely easy and somewhat fun to make them look stupid by shoving the facts in their faces.

No contradiction at all. I communicate with other donors. I hear what their wishes are. I am not in the inside .

And obviously you communicate with "all" the other donors to the university, which is how you know your statement is true, and not just a small sampling of like-minded football fans, which might lead you to make possibly erroneous claims.

I can only speak for myself and I am not at all a big donor.. Im like a penny donor but I do donate a few times a year. I always mark my donations for football or whenever there is special football drive I donate specifically to that. To be honest I would not donate to anything else.
