Very exciting to go to Ireland for many of us.
But wait!
The video is record of the press conference announcing the scheduling of the Shamrock Crystal Bowl in Killarney, Ireland between the Ball State University Cardinals and the Ohio University Bobcats to be played on November 17, 1990.
We won!!!!!
1990 (7-4); MAC: 5-3 (3rd Tie) Coach Schudel 9/8 Illinois State (A) W 13-3 15 Wisconsin (A) L 24-7 22 Toledo (H)* L 28-16 29 Bowling Green (H)* W 16-6 10/6 Miami Univ. (A)* L 24-10 13 Kent State (H)* W 31-0 20 Western Mich. (A)* L 14-13 27 Indiana State (H) W 42-0 11/3 Central Mich. (A)* W 13-3 10 Eastern Mich. (A)* W 20-13 17 Ohio (H)* W 23-6
The BSU punch line is that bowl game was later moved to Ball State Stadium in Muncie, IN.

It was good to hear Morrieās voice when he asked the question, but where was Dougie Z?

On page 6 of the same edition of the DN there is a story about the BB team playing a preseason game in Winchester, and plans for the FB team to play a future game in Bloomington.

"Sports Marekting Group of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the organizer of the Shamrock Crystal Bowl game, notified both schools in a letter from its attorney Monday that the firm wanted to renegotiate the contract. Officials from both schools re-jected a request to pay an additional $150,000 that the firm wanted."
reading between the lines "Sports Marketing Group couldn't sell enough tickets because no one in Ireland wanted to see Ball State vs Ohio in November."
Also love the typo or Marketing

If only the MAC would invest in its Irish fanbase, I'm sure it would have the same level of success as here.

reading between the lines "Sports Marketing Group couldn't sell enough tickets because no one in Ireland wanted to see Ball State vs Ohio in November." Population 14K, Killarney is a tourist spot in the summer. More hotel rooms than most Irish towns other than Dublin.
Promoters were no perhaps optimistic for some reason that more than a few fans from the two schools wanted to fly to Ireland in the off season.

I was in Killarney last year. 4 hour train ride from Dublin. Closest airport is Shannon near Limerick. Only way to get to Killarney is via bus or driving. Lovely place though.
