There is a credible scenario where basketball makes money. Football just can't say that. Not lately. Not in the foreseeable future. |

I don't know what your time frame is for the foreseeable future. We'd have to look at some numbers to see what all revenues and expenses are, but assume a $10 ticket price. You get a million dollars in revenue from 100,000 paid attendance for a season. Can we get 5000+ fans per game for a winning MAC team. I think so.
That pays for a lot of basketball. 100,000 paid for football or a million dollars in revenue covers a small fraction of expenses.
