So, in light of what the OTP posted on Twitter about the BoT wanting a head coach with head coaching experience. Let's take a look at some possible candidates from FCS level.
In order from most interesting to no chance ... to hell-to-the-no:
The first three are the obvious trifecta of optimism and have been talked about before:
Bo Pelini – Youngstown State – 5-6 at Youngstown State. 67-27 at Nebraska, never had less than 9 wins at Nebraska. Salary: $213,894
Brock Spack – Illinois State – 56-29 in 7 years. Runner up in 2014. Quarter-finalist in 2015. Quarter-finalist in 2012. Salary: $243,072
Chris Klieman – NDSU – 27-3 (so far) in 2 seasons at NDSU. Going for 2nd FCS title. Salary: $326,000
From there we have the second waive:
Danny Rocco – Richmond – 33-18 in 4 years. 2 straight 2nd round FCS trips. 47-20 at Liberty prior to that. Beat Ball State in 2010 while at Liberty (remember that? I erased it from memory). Salary: $400,000
Everett Withers – James Madison – 19-7 in 2 seasons at JMU. 7-6 as interim at North Carolina in 2011. Back to back FCS appearances including 2nd round this past season. Salary: $325,000
Mike Sanford – Indiana State – 14-23 in 3 years in Terre Haute. 8-6 and a victory over us in 2014. 5-6 this past season which isn't good. Salary: $180,000
From there we have the LONG shots:
Russ Huessman – Chattanooga – 50-33 at UTC in 7 years. Two straight trips to the FCS playoffs. 2014 they went 10-4 & 7-0 in conference and made the FCS Quarterfinals. Salary: $205,738
Jamey Chadwell – Charleston Southern – 28-10 in 3 years at CSU. 10-3 this past season and 1st in the Big South. Salary: Undetermined
Rick Chamberlein – Dayton – 65-25 in 8 years. 10-1 in 2010. 10-2 and first FCS appearance in 2015. Spent his entire life at Dayton. Salary: Undetermined
From there we go to the extremely doubtful, but lets throw it against the wall and sees what sticks:
Jason Simpson – UT-Martin – 65-49 in 10 years. 1 FCS trip. Averaged 7 wins in the past 4 seasons.
Joe Moglia – Costal Carolina – 41-13 in 4 years at CCU. Back to back 12 win seasons and FCS Quarterfinal appearances in 2013 & 2014. Strange trip to becoming a coach. Older. Innovative. Salary: Probably nothing, he is a MULTI-millionaire. Probably doesn’t want to leave the warm southern climate
And final we have this guy looming in the distance, waiting in the background to once again dash our hopes and dreams:
Turner Gill – Liberty – 29-19 in 4 seasons including 2nd round of FCS in 2014. Sucked at Kansas. Also coached at some craptastic school in the northeast that we don't want to talk about.
I started to do this same thing with D2 coaches, but that ended quickly ...
