If Sandy had a lick of sense he could have delayed the banquet and used it to help introduce the new coach and thank the players for all the work they put in. If promoted correctly they could have made money on it. Many would have liked to attend just to get a feeling on the new coach, staff, and the direction he plans to take the team next season. I had the same thought, but then what do you do with the assistants who would have to feel unsettled with the new coach there and many not continuing on. That's asking a lot. Our banquets are not very big, and as someone said focused on the past and the players. That's what most of the negative is here, that the graduating seniors don't get a day in the sun. OTOH, going out with two disappointing seasons it might not be the party everyone wanted anyway.

Then have the banquet as planned with just last season's coaches and players. It gives the players a chance to be together and bid each other a fond farewell.

Nice article about the Lembo legacy in terms of player personal development. He also worked hard to establish a better connection to the community, a very difficult challenge. I like the the choice if it turns out to be true. I remember Mike as a QB. He was tough. I believe he was on the team that played in the California Raison Bowl.
