I mentioned in another post about people I know buying guns. I left out why they are buying guns. They are buying them because of what they have seen unfold in the past six months. They are scared of what they have seen with these riots and they fear the defunding talk. These people are not dumb rednecks either. They are college educated people. People want and need law and order. Im not sure any of these people could actually pull a trigger on someone but if pushed I guess they could

Im not sure any of these people could actually pull a trigger on someone but if pushed I guess they could My house on Jackson Street was broken into while I lived there. My roommate came home to find the scene with a bunch of stuff piled by the door as if they were coming back. After dark he sat with his guns while I hurried back from Indy to join him. While I was stuck by a train 5 blocks from my house a friend called me and said my roommate caught one of the guys. After having the lights flipped on a hearing the lever action of a Marlin 336 the burglar laid down. Needless to say my roommate and I were spooked. He moved in with his girl and left me a rifle. On homecoming weekend my girlfriend and a friend of ours were visiting me when I heard the front door open and someone head upstairs. I figured it was my roommate but when I heard the person waking from empty room to empty room upstairs I knew it wasn’t him. I grabbed the rifle and went to the bottom of the stairs. A man waked down and right out of my house not realizing I was standing right there with a rifle sighted on him. I’m very glad he didnt bother to check out the downstairs, as I was the inly one living in a 10 bedroom house.

Thats crazy. I've been robbed at gunpoint, fought a guy who had a gun on them but never pointed a gun at another person. To be completely honest I have not shot a gun in over 30 years. I own a couple rifles and a handgun. All have been locked in a gunsafe for years. Ive just never been a gun guy

And for the record, my interest in firearms has always been about the mechanics and the historical significance of certain weapons. I'm not one of those guys that posts a photo of a new gun on Facebook and goes "oh thats kewl - drool!!!" Those guys always make me a little suspicious. I've got a couple handguns and a couple shotguns for self defense, but the restof my collection is well over a hundred years old. Some 150. So I'm not some gun fetishist, it's just a hobby.

After seeing the news that Rand Paul was attacked while leaving the White House yesterday, I expect a crackdown on these protests in DC.
Trying to take out a sitting US Senator is pretty serious business.
I'm sure 00 will make some excuse for them though.

Its like anything else when you let a person or group of people start doing something with out repercussions what ever they are doing snowballs. Whats starts off as minimal offenses blooms into more serious offenses. Its just human nature

I agree any assault is serious, athough I would not be surprised somebody might want to take a swing at Rand Paul, he regularly pisses everyone off. Was this really an assassination attempt or did you mean something else by "take out?"

If no cops were there, do you think he would have survived?

If no cops there, he'd have called them and stayed inside. He's no fool.
I doubt the demonstrators intended murder. But they should have realized they were creating a potentially lethal confrontation. I doubt they thought enough about that.
Just like I doubt the cops in Kenosha intended the incident that led to this, both groups deserve criticism.
I guess if there is any comparison, I expect more of a professional police force than I do of the demonstrators, but neither incident is justified.

Not a rampage. That suggests more purpose and control.
But I can't see it as innocent self defense either. Maybe involuntary manslaughter. Not premeditated murder.
Whatever else it is, it was part stupid fantasy, part asking for trouble.
Felt good. Walking the streets armed, powerful. Like in a video game.
Predictably he found trouble. Sort of like George Zimmerman, it got out of hand. Didn't follow the script he wrote in his dream. More cop fantasy gone wrong than paranoid vigilante.
But if nothing had happened this time, he'd be out there again. A menace.

My wife and I went gun shopping on Saturday for the first time...we’ve had cars rummaged through in our garage, more garages in the neighborhood have been entered, and then you watch TV.
I know it’s just garages now but where does it stop.

So what you're saying is that a Senator should cower inside, because thugs are using intimidation to try to get their way? You're ok with mob rule? They knocked over the cop in front of him. They were trying to get at him. What do you think they were going to do, give him a hug?

I know it’s just garages now but where does it stop. It doesn't, until you stop it, unfortunately. Gun sales are through the roof. Ammo is very scarce, especially in 9mm (the most common caliber for modern handguns). Make it a practice to clean your gun on the front porch. That sends a message to the neighborhood. Word gets around pretty quick.

Well, if you mean do I think he should not take his wife out and try to walk through a large group or otherwise confront demonstrators? I guess I'd say don't do that. Stay inside and call law enforcement trained to deal with demonstrations. That the crowd had contact with the security doesn't surprise me. Or think there was murderous intent.
