I hope you are not advocating refusing to hire obese to work in health care administration. "Optics" did not prevent Trump trying to appoint Chris Christie as head of Veteran Affairs, largely a health care post or to a commission advising on opioid abuse, a problem obviously related to knowing what is healthy and doing it. The most important issue here is unrelated to gender, health, or appearance. And I hope you're not saying she's "cured". Would you want a Drug Czar (if there even is such a thing anymore) that's addicted to cocaine? Her apparent addiction to Twinkies or whatever reduces her reputation.

VDARE is an immigration site. Sites and speech that fail to agree with the left are called hate site and speech by the left. Too bad those people are so very close minded. Reality is neither right or left. vdare.com/aboutThat of course is their own description of the purpose.
Did you take a look at the blog and articles on that site ?
If you want a balanced view of reality, the site's reality is entirely that of the right, including quite a lot of what is fairly called radical right. That's fine, but hardly a site that is "open minded." Also clearly not merely a site merely concerned with immigration policy other than to reduce non white immigration. For what is hard to say is other than racist reasons. In their own words they are "focused primarily on the consequences of mass immigration and the National Question (i.e., whether or not the U.S. can continue as a nation-state, the political expression of a particular people)." That would be a white nation...
How exactly is America to become a white nation? Implicitly and often explicitly in the articles posted their position is to not only restrict immigration but also to restrict civil rights of minorities.
Founded in 1999 by anti-immigrant activist and author Peter Brimelow, the Center for American Unity has served to promote the work of white supremacists, anti-Semites and others on the radical right. This is most obvious in VDARE.com, which the foundation started in 1999 and funded until 2007. It is named after Virginia Dare, said to be the first English child born in the New World, in 1587.
VDARE.com was an idea that Brimelow says "flowed out of a best-selling book I wrote back in 1995(!), Alien Nation. … Like the immigration reform movement in general, it is a coalition, agreed only on the need for immigration reduction."
While Brimelow vehemently denies that the site is white nationalist, preferring instead "politically incorrect," many of the articles published there contain typical white nationalist themes; Brimelow also concedes that he does publish some "white nationalist" authors, like Jared Taylor of American Renaissance magazine. They decry the demise of white America, blaming immigrants, multiculturalists, and members of the "Treason Lobby" for undermining the racial cohesion of the nation. Reflecting this position, VDARE.com’s archives contain articles like "Freedom vs. Diversity," "Abolishing America," "Anarcho-Tyranny — Where Multiculturalism Leads" and "Why Immigrants Kill."
VDARE also publishes essays by prominent academic racists. For example, a column by Jared Taylor, who has argued elsewhere that black people are incapable of maintaining any kind of civilization, dismisses "the fantasy of racial equality," claims the Civil Rights Act of 1964 "stripped Americans of the right to make free decisions," and says that "lacks, in particular, riot with little provocation," unlike the far more peaceable white race. He has also published pieces by J. Philippe Rushton, the head of the Pioneer Fund, which gives financial backing to academics who specialize in race and IQ studies.
While acknowledging that his site hosts "white nationalists" like Taylor, Brimelow argues that they are merely people who "aim to defend the interests of American whites. They are not white supremacists. They do not advocate violence. They are rational and civil......Brimelow goes on to say that as dark-skinned immigration from the Third World continues, "this type of interest-group ‘white nationalism’ will inexorably increase." What Brimelow doesn’t mention is that VDARE.com also posts stories by one of the most important anti-Semites in America, Kevin MacDonald, a professor of psychology at the California State University, Long Beach. MacDonald believes Jews are genetically driven to undermine the power of whites by pushing such things as Third World immigration.
Other authors listed on VDARE.com’s website as part of its "editorial collective" as of 2008 include Thomas Allen, Bryanna Bevens, John Brimelow (brother of Peter), Randall Burns, Joseph Fallon, James Fulford, Joe Guzzardi, Athena Kerry, D.A. King, Juan Mann, Paul Craig Roberts, Steve Sailer, Howard Sutherland, Brenda Walker, Allan Wall, John Wall, and Chilton Williamson Jr.
The VDARE.com website also serves as a repository for an archive of nativist columns by the white nationalist movement’s foremost intellectual, Sam Francis, the immigrant-bashing editor of the newspaper of the white supremacist Council of Conservative Citizens

No. Clearly not. Look at the thread again.
You have responded to a post where I spoke of the VDARE article, and also said that the nursing home issue could be debated. I then addressed that issue. You omit that for some reason when you quote me.
There is no reason to think Rachel Levine is doing anything different than what she says for the reason in my post:
This would not fly if Levine was a Republican. Levine would be cancelled. HUH?
If there is an effort by Biden to include minority voices in government, it is in healthy contrast to Trump's efforts to exclude. But Levine has a record of public service in Pa. You seem to ignore the record, and ignore the role she will play, seeing ONLY minority status as relevant.

This is Biden filling out his diversity Bingo card. It's always amusing watching liberals twist themselves into pretzels instead of just admitting this obvious truth. No more "amusing" than seeing conservatives twisting into pretzels to justify appointing their constituents, allies, yes men and cronies to positions as did Trump. The test is whether the appointees have qualification to do the job. That politics enters in I cannot deny. Or criticize heavily, our government is a political choice, not just a strictly functional one.
As I look at the incoming government and its choices, I see a relatively good job matching competency with the job, and have no illusion there is not also political element involved as well in appointments.
Too often Trump failed in that competency test. Or worse yet hired well enough, but fired or took appointees and civil service professionals out of the loop when they disagreed with him based on their expertise.
I criticize the former administration far more for lack of competence than for wrong headed ideology. Especially since Trump so often exhibited support for an ideology without possessing any real belief in it. Balancing the ideology inherent in policy choices is why I believe we need a moderate conservative force in politics. Not warring extremes.

Oh my God, do politicians actually do things like that ? I had no idea. Your double standards are childish.

Good Lord even the Washington Post admits the SPLC jumped the shark long ago. Would you grow-up ? The WaPo publishes opinion from both sides of the spectrum, unlike VDARE. And, criticism of the left's excesses is fair game.
However, on the matter of growing up, you will note the material I actually quoted was accurate. Not extreme in this case, that I see. Where do you actually disagree with what is posted?
I have a healthy skepticism about the SPLC but I suggest you challenge what I wrote, not other things I did not emphasize.
Are you defending VDARE? Or are you criticizing the accuracy of the account I posted? Or merely offering gratuitous name calling?

Oh my God, do politicians actually do things like that ? I had no idea. Your double standards are childish. You want to explain how it is a double standard? I want the standard of competence to be applied to every administration, and do not see the Biden appointments to be characterized by yes men (or women) at all. Quite different from the preceding administration.
Call me out on it if we see Biden firing those who tell him he is wrong after appointing them and calling them brilliant.

Trump's efforts to exclude (minority voices).
Examples ? Well, let's see.
Trump appointed women to 1 in 4 judicial posts. Obama 42%
Trump appointed racial minorities to 1 in 6 posts. Obama 36%.
In cabinet positions, Biden 40+%, Trump 20%, Obama 36%, Bush 35%
I'll dig up lower level appointments if you seriously think it was close.

I think you should just hire the best qualified for the job, regardless of race or gender. Maybe that is controversial now.

If Levine was a Republican, the Democrats would've raked Levine through the coals for poor choices with Covid patients in nursing homes. It's the Democrat way.
