Not sure what I think about this possibility for the Colts. Like last year, there are no GOOD options for the colts at qb, so we have to choose among an array of risky to bad options. Unlike Rivers, though, Stafford will apparently cost a #1 pick. Trading a #1 pick for a 33 year old is something that can haunt you for years to come.
Especially with the colts having failed to use their top picks for the key, high value positions of WR, Edge, left tackle and CB in recent years and consequentially being old and/or out of options at those key positions.

Stanford is injury prone. He can still play, but he’s always hurt.

I really hope not. Agree, always hurt. Of course, that could be from a lack of protection.

I wonder if the talk of moving Nelson to LT has prompted some realism about positional value among the Nelson fanboys. You can bet that if Nelson CAN play LT he WILL be moved there. That is an enormous, vital, gaping hole in the colts roster right now. Who might then replace Nelson at RG is of relatively minor concern.
If Nelson isn't moved to LT, you will never hear it said, but it would be because it became obvious to the staff that he wouldn't be effective there. This is quite likely given his too-short arms, lack of lateral quickness and propensity for holding penalties. They colts will say it was because they needed him at RG and blah blah blah. It would make Ballard look terrible if it were admitted the #6 pick in the draft was only good for a low value role. Likewise if the colts draft an LT in the first round, you will know there was no belief in Nelson at LT, given the other vital needs at WR, Edge and CB.

Stafford is off to the Rams. I wanted him, but not at that price. Goff, 2 first rounders and a 3rd rounder. No thanks.

Hypothetically - what would the colts have had to offer to out-bid that? I guess the answer depends on how much you value Goff, but I'm glad we didn't find out.

I read now that Goff and his contract were actually regarded as a negative factor in the trade, and that the Rams had to include an additional 1st to induce the Lions to take Goff.
