My memory isn't good or detailed enough to rank this snow. It's a legit good one, but I don't see it as really exceptional. I was in middle school for the 78 blizzard A perfect age to enjoy it....which I did. For me, all other snows are measured by that one and probably always will be.
Another good memory is the snow that collapsed the old field sports Quonset hut...must have been 81 or 82. We were living in Lafollette Hall at the time...just across the street. But we were focused on enjoying the fruits of a certain small scale agricultural project and knew nothing about the collapse until we saw in on an Indy news station. We immediately bundled up and headed over to look at it. It looked like a giant whale or dinosaur with a broken back.

12 inches where I live. I can remember a storm less than a decade ago that gave us 14.
Freshman year at BSU, we got 13 inches of snow in one night. Of course my car was at the stadium lot. Fun times.

I think I know the one you’re talking about. I was a junior that year. Me and my buddies built a very large igloo with 3 entrances and room for 3-4 people.

I remember it because January of that year was the coldest I've ever felt in my life. I'm pretty sure we had a few days where the high temperature didn't make it above zero. To get places, I took shortcuts that probably weren't actually shortcuts just to get out of the cold.

I was in third grade and we were out every day and had an early dismissal on the day we weren't. A tip of the cap on your other memory as well!

Let's change the conversation a bit, as it was 1 degree outside on my morning commute. What is the lowest temperature you can remember, and the longest sustained stretch of cold? I remember during my undergrad at IUPUI that polar vortex that sat over Indy for a few days I think back in 2014. That was quite brutal.

I was trying to remember what year that was. Not only was it way below zero for 10 days it also snowed 3 inches every night. When the weather finally broke and the temp got up to zero it was like a heat wave had hit. People in my apartment complex were walking around without jackets.

Not as much trouble as Texas.
They were unprepared and their secession from the national grid complicated the weather emergency.
We're not good with snow in Delaware Cty but are experienced with cold and ice.
We looked bad in the ice storm we had but remedied most of the problems after that.
