How bout these guys try to have a “name” without college athletics giving them a: a free education and no student loan debt, and B, the exposure to even have a “name” worth anything. See how far that gets them. They’re welcome to skip college and try to play in Europe or the g league or at the local rec center and most of them would never be heard from again.

The NFL, and to an extent the NBA and MLB (they have their own farm systems), use college sports as their minor league/development systems, at no cost. Let them pony up money from their TV contracts.
Force the NFL and NBA to build large farm systems and let kids go directly into the pros. Many young athletes don't even want to sit in a classroom. Why make them?

Wrong choice of words. If kids want pay, look elsewhere than Higher Ed institutions. If a full or partial scholarship isn't enough, go elsewhere. If the NFL and the NBA want to develop talent, then provide a mechanism to develop talent. There are plenty of kids who do not want to sit in class, just to play pro sports. Give them an alternative and free up the space in the classroom. If you want to get an education, then play college sports for a full or partial scholarship. If the NFL and NBA want to make Higher Ed their development system, then pay Higher Ed institutions accordingly.

There are already semipro leagues, the NBADL, Europe, and other avenues available to them.
Or they can go get a regular job like everyone else.

The NBA is ahead of the NFL with their G League. Some of their best players came straight out of HS. The "one and done" NCAA basketball institutions took a hit this year too in not making the tournament.

There are already semipro leagues...Or they can go get a regular job like everyone else. C'mon. That is not part of this discussion...
