The Cards play a 3-game series against Butler this weekend. Due to Easter Sunday, the games will start on Thursday. Two in Muncie, one in Indy (Good Friday).
Butler has only played 11 games (5-6, no Big East yet), so hard to scout them at this point. One win over DePauw; went 1-2 vs. PFW (7-12); went 1-2 vs. Evansville (12-11); went 2-1 vs. Valpo (5-12); and lost to Kentucky (17-4).
As a team, their offense has a .253 BA; .395 SLG%; .347 OB% (BSU is .245; .337; .341).
Defensively, they have a .950 FLD%; 5.74 ERA; .288 BAallowed; 2.18 K/BB%; 1.18 WP/G; 1.18 HBP/G; 2.9 XBH/G (BSU is .972; 4.04; .235; 2.33; 0.86; 0.86; 2.52)
BSU has struggled at the plate to date. I don't think Butler has seen tough pitching yet. Hopefully BSU's rotation is sharp this weekend.
Ball State better sweep, even though these games don't matter for the MAC title. Just need to get in a winning streak that lasts.

I think Butler is comparable to our last 2 opponents. Anything less than 3 of 4 would be disappointing.

Butler is probably better than Toledo and WMU. I'm guessing we will play most of the roster due to injuries and some starters having seen most of the game action so far, so I don't have high expectations for this series. The MAC games are the only things that truly matter right now. |

I agree 100% - I can't stand Butler. But they have been aggressively pursuing baseball the last handful of years, and they would likely risk their conference games the following weekend just to beat us. I'm guessing our staff will take a more cautious approach. |

Always good to beat the Buttdogs.
Butler threw its ace for 7 innings. We roughed up their bullpen pretty badly after him.
Ty Johnson's continued development is a good thing to see.
Nice to see Simpson hitting again and Messina get a tater.
Also nice that Sebby got a break.
I'd really love to sweep those bastards. I cannot stand Butler University.

Close game until we added four in the top of the ninth. Baker only went about 4 - 5 innings. Agree on Johnson.
