I had a telemarketer call me a racist a-hole because I told him that if they're going to be bothering me at all hours of the day, they should at least hire an American to do it. (His opener was, "'Ello, good sir, my nem ees... Jeem." I instantly doubted the veracity of his claim, and yes, I was satisfied with my current car warranty.) My rule is if it's a telemarketer with anonymous caller ID info they get the gruff treatment. Why answer it? Screen the call.
Most providers now offer anti spam service AI. Like NOMOROBO, or your device can sometimes screen, as is true on Android which has the rather powerful ability for Google Assistant to answer and take a message from unknown numbers.

I'm sure the kid was somewhere between mildly amused and bored...probably closer to bored.... with my rant which was clearly directed at decision makers and not him. I can't remember in this particular case, but I might have frankly, but politely and without hostility, suggested to him that there were jobs to be found that DON'T involve pestering people in their homes. I had a telemarketer call me a racist a-hole because I told him that if they're going to be bothering me at all hours of the day, they should at least hire an American to do it. BSU is unlikely to cause you such aggravation with any fund raising call.
I just don't talk to Jeem if I do pick up a call like that, for example where caller ID is spoofed, I might answer.
To each his own on the entertainment value you mentioned above somewhere.
Generally I am not amused, and I may be paranoid, but I don't want them recording my voice saying much of anything. Especially anything that might be essentially saying "yes". Like the recording, "Hello, I am ....., can you hear me?"
Easy to say "yes" for some apparently. Hang up on that one.

I dont answer if I don’t know the number. Also, recognizing the number only slightly increases the chances I’ll answer.

"helping our program win THREE MAC WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS (!), these types of achievements are simply not possible without your financial support." Question: What do we need to donate to get beyond MAC West championships? Is this a tiered system kinda thing? Like if I donate a boat or a small island can we get back to NCAA contention? I finally prepared my ears and listened to this. Dude sounds like he's reading from a script. Anybody that uncomfortable speaking to people shouldn't be working in this profession.
