I will be the first to admit I dont follow Ball State softball closely, but I'm pleased to see they're off to a 10-0 start in MAC play. It looks like Miami OH and BSU will battle it out for the MAC bid if early indications play out over a longer sample.

So I don't follow softball either, but I am curious enough to ask: What's the reason for the difference in conference (11-0) and pre-conference (6-9) records?
Quality of opponents? Does the rest of the MAC just suck? Was the pre-conference schedule that strong?
Did they just begin to figure it out? Get players back from injuries?
Anyone know?

Similar to the baseball team, they played a challenging non conference schedule but went 0-9 vs top 100 teams while men were a bit closer to .500 vs tough nonconference teams. They're essentially perfect against teams ranked lower than 100th.

It's not just ranked competition, it's the head start some of those warm weather teams had.

It's not just ranked competition, it's the head start some of those warm weather teams had. I still suggest it was more due to the level of competition in nonconference play vs losing to warm weather teams. The ladies went 3-0 vs Jacksonville St. And Alcorn St. and split with Samford but lost to #DePaul and were swept by semi warm weather Southern IL. That said, I'm very happy for them to start 11-0 in MAC play. Ultimately that's more important than non conference play in a 1 bid league.

Well, the ladies finally lost a conference game last night. They took the first game of the DH, but Miami came back late in the game and won game 2 8-7. Miami is 17-1 and BSU is 16-1 on conference play. The loss is understandable and it's hard to complain, but we were up 7-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th. With most likely one MAC team making the dance this loss could sting at the end of the season.

Hopefully they fare well in the 2nd doubleheader with Miami.
