Nah, let's not give the East that big a lead. Recent history it was probably 3rd to, maybe, 5th in a bad year. There are usually no more than 2 teams significantly above the rest in the MAC, and maybe the next tier is 3-7 mostly equal. BSU is now in that second tier.
Not so sure about next year...
Except that Whitford has a losing record against every MAC East team, both in his career and over the last 5 years even if you throw out his early dismal years: Opponent (career / last 5 yrs) Vs Akron (3W-8L / 3W – 4L) Vs Bowling Green (3W – 11L / 2W – 7L) Vs Buffalo (3W – 10L / 2W – 7L) Vs Kent State (3W – 8L / 3W – 4L) Vs Miami OH (4W – 7L / 2W – 4L) Vs Ohio (2W – 10L / 2W – 5L) Whitford total vs MAC East career = 18W – 54L, 25% win % Whitford last 5 years vs MAC East = 14W – 31L, 31% win % If we're in the 3-7 range, I think it's almost at 7. Also considering career-wise he's below .500 vs Toledo and right at .500 vs WMU, it would be easy to peg us more in the 6-9 range than 3-7. The MAC East champion, runner-up, and NCAA tourney rep has rotated amongst pretty much all schools except Miami over Whitford's tenure. In the West, it hasn't rotated as much but that's primarily due to certain NIU's, EMU's, CMU's constantly being bottom-feeders. Toledo and BSU get some occasional East wins while cleaning up vs the West bottom, but nothing to indicate we'd consistently be in the upper-half of the East. Well, if you're just going to muddy the water with facts, then...HARUMPH!
