“I’m a player that thrives on competition,” Coleman answered when asked what prompted him to move along. “Being around better players doesn’t leave me a choice. It’s going to elevate my game. I needed a new challenge.”
I would have preferred a Leader who made the players around him better.

Very telling, both about Whitford's program and about Coleman's lack of wanting to make his TEAMMATES better. He's solely concerned about elevating his own game and no one else's. I get it, but it's also very selfish.

Yeah, the writer's mention of Tyler Parsons and getting wacked by Toledo 74-42 (it was Akron) was stellar. In typical Boogie humility, I loved his "I was poised to be Player of the Year." comment. Me before we.
For those of us who lived through the Boogie era, this reads like someone who was 500 miles away because the writer was...500 miles away.
Here's the close-up view for those of us who actually saw him play most of his games here. Very talented and versatile. Tough to guard. Improved shooting this past year. Lots of raw potential. Emotional. And...prone to pouting, prone to turnovers, didn't like to play D, self-focused.
I hope he does well at Mizzou. Will be zero surprised if he transfers again during his career. Just sayin.

I loved this "Sacrificing early minutes fit with Ball State’s long-term vision." I have been watching BSU basketball for decades and I have no clue what Whitford's vision is from year to year. First he talked about an up tempo transition offense that would "excite the alumni and fanbase", then it became a "sophiscated motion offense", then he started talking about "small ball". Meanwhile we haven't won shit.

Fun fact: The Washington Generals have beaten the Harlem Globetrotters more often than Whitford wins in the MAC tourney.
It is believed the Generals are something like 3-16000 against the Globetrotters, which is approximately the same winning percentage as Whitford has in post season play, although Whotifords win total is less. I think I've uncovered a good professional opportunity here for BSU players. They can move on from their first round tourney loss their final year in Whitford's program to the Generals without missing a beat....the "culture" of the two teams being nearly identical. Preparing young men for their future career like this is yet another reason Whitford should be extended.
I might also add a special addendum to the Sherman Plan as it applies to BSU. Whenever the next coaching search happens, BSU should take a good look at current and former Washington Generals coaches. They would definitely be a less-expensive out-of-the-box choice, and have the additional advantage of providing continuity of culture with BSU's 4 most recent coaches.
(Might I further add that "Generals" is an entirely inappropriate name for a team that exists to lose. They should switch names making the "Generals" the team that always wins and the "Globetrotters" as their punching bag)

I'll certainly surrender that point to you.
