... Ball State has, without a doubt, the toughest end of schedule.
If somehow BSU could go 3-1 in each of the four series, it could get them to a 40-16 record.
Even if Ball State came in 2nd to CMU, I think the NCAA committee would find it very to not pick Ball State as an at-large selection into the tourney.
40 wins, a split series with #7 Arizona, a split with SEC UK would be in BSU's favor.
Dropping 3 to #21 Old Dominion, and going 2-2 @ EMU would hurt BSU, but not too bad. The former is a road hiccup to a ranked team, and the latter was a road split that would've only happened once.
If we can take over 1st in the MAC, CMU could also have a shot at an at-large selection as well. If BSU can take 3 from CMU, CMU could still run the rest of the slate and end up with 41 wins.

Agreed 100%. If this team finishes as you describe, it would be a crying shame if they didn't make the tournament. MAC baseball is much better than many credit it.

Unfortunately I only see the MAC getting 1 bid. To get an at large, the 2nd place MAC team would likely need to be considered a top 45 team in the country since the 18-20 worst rated conference champions likely would not make it in outside of the auto bid. Neither RPI nor Massey Ratings system rank the top 2 MAC teams inside the top 50. This makes these final 12 games extremely meaningful.
I'm certainly more proud than ashamed of BSU baseball even if they finish 2nd to Central, especially compared to out frustrating basketball program, but getting to the dance for the 2nd time in their MAC history would be a fantastic way to close out the academic year.
