There’s a lot of good natured ribbing and fun but also a lot of childish bullshit. It’s a hard line to police but I favor professionals acting like professionals. If you’re going to run your mouth like an asshole you deserve to get punched in the mouth like an asshole. They should not prohibit the punch if they’re going to allow the taunt.

I can agree in principle with a rule on this, but not applied here, it was a technical violation probably, maybe should be called if tempers were running hot in the game or it was a repeat offense, this offense should have been ignored.

The gesturing was nothing much...did he say something inappropriate?

The gesturing was nothing much...did he say something inappropriate? No doubt inappropriate at a bridge tournament.

The gesturing was nothing much...did he say something inappropriate? The league is putting a renewed emphasis on "taunting" so expect to see a few of these for the first couple weeks until the backlash happens and they slowly disappear. This seems to happen every year where the NFL emphasizes something and then overcorrect

I support the league's general idea.
It's truly disgusting to watch a bunch of teammates rushing down to celebrate a touchdown, but having to wait while the scorer goes through his pre-choreographed, look-at-me, individual display routine. Hey there bud, I'm pretty sure those teammates contributed something towards your TD.

You have a point that's become too much at times. The celebrations aren't usually covered by this rule though are they? “baiting or taunting acts or words” and “abusive, threatening or insulting language or gestures” Celebration is not in the face of the opposing player, and even if not traditional and sometimes not very tasteful, it is a stretch to get to unsportsmanlike conduct. For that matter so called "taunting" is probably not much of the time.
The league probably thinks that's just fun, even good TV up to a point. But it does delay getting to the extra point. A thrilling play... Taunting is more risky and can get ugly. It should be something a lot different than a fist pump after sinking a long putt.
