We lost Don Shondell last night. A true trailblazer and true Ball State Cardinal. Giant influence in volleyball across the country. Great man.

That's a shame. I was just talking about him yesterday before the football game. I was wondering how he was doing, sorry to hear of his passing.

What a contributor to Volleyball for the NCAA, for BSU. And to Delaware County and Indiana HS girls sports!

They had a nice little moment of silence for him today at the v ball game. Oddly I may be the only muncie local and bsu lifer who has never personally met any of the Shondells. Its odd cause my wife is a Burris grad and many of her friends played for Steve. My brother in law also helped coach with Steve and Kelly Sheffield(current Wisconsin head coach) seems like I would have had a chance encounter with them at some point

I'm with HL Mencken: "The older I get the more I admire and crave competence, just simple competence, in any field from adultery to zoology.”
Very few people, in any walk of life, know what they are doing the way Don Shondell knew what he was doing when he was coaching volleyball.

From what I understand, one of the most influential persons ever at Ball State.

Don't think I ever actually spoke to him, but I remember when I was a student and used to work out in the weight room in U Gym. Sometimes I would see Don Shondell in there working out also. He used to do this thing where he would stand on a mat and roll down across his shoulders and back up to his feet in each direction alternately. I used to think that maybe I should do those also on the grounds that, if Don Shondell did that, it must be a smart thing to do.
