CMU & Kent have been good but it's because the league is going to get a team in the tourney every yr & will occasionally win a game or two there. Only Kent in 12 got a team to the College World Series. Maine has not reached the College World Series since the 80s. Playing college baseball in the summer would make it more competitive for northern teams & attract fans especially as the number of minor league teams grow smaller as MLB owners don't want to pay for large numbers of players there. It would help the 300 schools playing D1 baseball bring in more money from the programs which currently are suffering from athletic department shortages of money. CMU, Kent, even Maine's success boils down to getting good staff, keeping them and recruiting well.

Personally, I would love to see more of a summer season for college teams. I understand there would be scheduling complications to work out and that southern teams (who now benefit greatly by having teams from the northern climes visit during the cold spring) would protest.
I just think it makes sense to run the college season more concurrently with the pro season and have the college World Series lead into the MLB World Series, kind of like what happens in football and basketball.
And I would love the opportunity to see more games in a "comfortable environment." I don't have the opportunity to travel like some to see the team early in the season, but I think I could find plenty of lazy summer days to spend at the park.

MLB Draft has been pushed back to July 17-19 in 2022. This makes room for MLB to create what is called the MLB Draft League which runs from June 2nd to July 16. Good luck extending the college season beyond the draft, and now the Draft League. NCAA Regionals, Super Regionals and CWS run during the period of MLB Draft League.

I agree no changes are going to occur soon & maybe never. Any changes would have to start with the NCAA baseball programs changing the length of the season & southern schools will oppose it. I also think at present Southern schools have the power. I also will say the southern schools would be much worse off if they were playing in the summer thru August although not as bad as Arizona schools would in that scenario. While the NCAA will never do it would be nice for the schools to have a choice to play either spring or summer seasons with each having a tournament & champion.

Taking 2 of 4 from #5 Arizona in February last year, and 2 of 3 from Kentucky was a great way to show Ball State can compete. Ball State is in reload mode this year. Let's see how it plays out.

In those areas of the country that have minor league baseball, it is huge in the summer. Tough to get a good ticket on the weekends at any level. I doubt professional baseball would want the NCAA to compete with their product. There are also several age-old “wood bat collegiate baseball leagues” that rely on college players to field a team each year. A good place for local municipal entertainment, small town baseball support and for non-drafted college players to gain experience.

Even if not a formal summer schedule I don't see why NCAA and MLB can't find a way for jointly expanding college summer development leagues.
MLB is not really supporting minor leagues as they once did. There is a partnership opportunity there. VERY cheap funding of scholarship money for organized summer play.

Looking around the state, every D-1 baseball team is playing mid-week OOC games. All MAC teams, except BSU, are playing mid-week OOC games. What's the deal with Ball State? I miss those Purdue, Indiana and Indiana State games. Butler has replaced BSU as IU's opponent at Victory Field in Indy at the end of April. SMH.

Butler has replaced BSU as IU's opponent at Victory Field in Indy at the end of April. SMH. WTF??? Why? For quite a few years, IU has had one game at Victory Field each year. Notre Dame and Ball State alternated years as IU's opponent. They did not do it last year due to Covid. This year, since Ball State is not doing mid-week OOC games IU has opted to play Butler.
