The University is offering an early retirement deal to faculty 55 and older with 10 years of service. A lump sum payment equal to 125% of this year's salary, plus retiree insurance and some other considerations. I imagine Mearns might fall into that group, if they consider admin as faculty.
The idea is to weed out some of the older, higher-paid faculty and get in some younger, cheaper professors. It'll be interesting to see if that offer gets extended to staff in the near future.

I'm only basing this on some chatter I overheard. Nothing factual to show as of now.

Mearns doesn’t have 10 years in, though

Faculty with administrative appointments Dean and above are not eligible.
Other news: faculty informed they need to be prepared to "pivot" to on line instruction in Spring Semester.

Yawn. Mearns can and will be replaced very easily. Another second-rater who can recite all the most acceptable establishment talking points. Extra special bonus points for BSU if the replacement checks some gender/racial/sexual orientation box.

Heck, a replacement could potentially check MULTIPLE of those boxes. You just have to be willing to narrow your candidate base correspondingly. Look how well that's worked out with Kamala Harris.

Curious as to who was the last president that had the approval of this board.

Looks to me the Board doesn't value it's own judgement when it comes down to Presidents.

Looks to me the Board doesn't value it's own judgement when it comes down to Presidents. Why do you say that? Mearns has done pretty much what the Board wanted him to do.

It sounds likes some on the Board may want to dump him for a cheaper President. If I misunderstood what someone wrote I apologize

I had not heard any rumors as reported above. So this whole discussion seems about what this board thinks not the BOT.
The only money the BOT might care about ever would be if a President hurt find raising or legislative appropriation.
