Feel free to look over this thread and ignore it… however I have to get off my chest because my wife wouldn’t understand…
Watching LSU vs Towson baseball today and for every pitch, both team’s catcher are looking into the dugout for the pitch call… I think it should be outlawed in baseball for the dugout to call every pitch… teach the kids the game and put them in the position to make the decisions… use your mound visits and at bats to talk strategy…
Just drives me crazy…

Not sure if it is fully adopted, but some conferences have been using wireless ear pieces for catchers to get pitch signals from dugout for a few seasons.

Not to sound like the old guy yelling at clouds, but the current generation has a hard time taking responsibility for pretty much anything. They prefer to work in groups that prevent any 1 person from bearing blame if anything goes wrong. This is also why they're so into groupthink. They're not being taught to think critically and analyze situations. They're largely being taught to take a state test, and that's it.
Any teachers on the board? I wouldn't mind hearing an opinion on that. The above is just what I've observed as the current trend, after being around college students for half my life.

All Conference I totally agree with you. As an arm of the state I was forced to spend more and more time "teaching to the test". Undue pressure was placed on students to learn and do well on the test or they would receive low marks and would falsely be labeled. When students or schools did well on the tests they were rewarded like Pavlov's dogs. " You did great on the test Susie but tell me this Stealing is bad but when do you think that stealing might be ok if ever?" I taught 8th grade US History for 37 years and before the test were required my students did fine after graduation. Two of them have become Mayors of Anderson and others have graduated from the service academies and on and on. Students today are being groomed by the state to accept state mandated groupthink so that they may be easily controlled. Is it wrong to question what the state does or does not do? The question never gets asked because" I did well on the test and that is all that counts toward getting into college where I will do well without questioning anything". I really respected many of my underachieving students who just took a nap during the test or put down random answers. they did not play the test game. Some of them later started their own businesses or became successfully employed. Thanks. You really it a nerve here with me.

It's more about the coaches wanting to call pitches. Every catcher I have coached loves it when you give him the pitch call in a game. They want that responsibility. Most of it is still about learning sequences, learning hitter's tells and how your pitcher is reacting that day. Once a coach is comfortable that the catcher gets it, he'll usually give him a shot calling pitches.

The kids should play the game. Let the ace on the hill and his teammate behind the plate call the pitch

I pitched my entire baseball career if that's what you call it from 8years old to 18 years old, and I can tell you the coaches NEVER knew what pitch I had confidence in. I think the coaches over coach in every sport. Don't any of the coaches sit down any more. Every game of every sport they are up and yelling. Sit down and shut up. Don't the coaches teach during practice? My coaches certainly did but then I had three HOF coaches and a HOF dad who was a coach.
