Not nearly as good of a non conference start as last season, but I also understand the vast majority of the MAC struggles that first month given they're exclusively away from Muncie.

Split today.
Looks like everyone ran out of pitching in game 4.
I can't believe MAC stayed with the 4 game series this year. No one is set up to accommodate that. I'll bet that is why Maloney didn't want in-season non-conference games.

With 40 game conference schedule only room for 16 games and 12 taken in early season southern trips the only games left were used for the 4 games at Oregon

I'll bet that is why Maloney didn't want in-season non-conference games. It didn't stop anyone else in the MAC

Get the Brooms Out! Cards SWEEP the Bowling Green Falcons. Series with 55 runs, numerous hits, several grand slams at Ball Diamond First Merchants Ball Park. Ernie Banks would have said - "Let's play two" at the end of today's game. Go Cards!

BG not a MAC powerhouse but good to get the bat confidence for the Cards
Matt Rivera scorching it at .438 for the season. Two others over .320

Just a cursory look at ACC, SEC, Big10, AAC, CUSA conference scheduling and it appears the MAC leaders are the only conference to continue the Covid scheduling of the 4-game series.
Virtually NO collegiate program recruited to have 4 legitimate starters on their roster during any one conference season. This forces 7 inning double headers and a game 4 free for all where each team hits against a grab bag of inexperience or mid-relievers thrust into a starting situation. Not necessarily a recipe for identifying the best team.
I would assume the MAC hierarchy was ahead of the inflationary curve and perpetuated this scheduling farce in order to save bus fare for the schools.
