As with Buckley and Taylor before him, I now feel a bit sorry for Whitford. I imagine this represents sort of a crushing of his fondest dreams. Now that he's no longer squatting and taking up the position from which a better coach could have brought us fun and excitement, my bad feelings for him mostly disappear. I'm sure he WANTED to win...he just couldn't. He did go overboard with the excuses, but that's not an uncommon human trait.
Thompson, I did not feel sorry for. He was scum.
