What, that IU is out already? It was men vs boys. Saint Marys looked extremely strong. Hard to believe west coast conference has two teams like them and Gonzaga. Both are stronger than anyone in PAC12. Maybe it is a carryover from their strong football programs? To be fair to IU, they played intense games March 10, 11, 12, and 15. St Mary’s is good but eventually that many games in that few days will catch up to you.

How about Craig Neal as our next coach. His dad Stan played at BSU with Ed Butler. Craig played at Georgia Tech.

Woodson's NBA experience probably included more than a few games like that, with travel and playing a back to back, so I doubt he was surprised.
He changed the way IU seasons have been going by improving their play late in the season, recovering from a bad stretch, and getting a good win and good loss in the B10 tournament. It got IU in, but that late season stretch in the last 10 games still resulted in a play in seed. And you are right they were toast with that much play, travel, and little preparation time.

Yeah but IU has a men's basketball budget of just under $15 million and St. Mary's is around $4.5 million. So how is this result possible ? You keep telling us money is everything.

Florida just hired Todd Golden from The University of San Francisco as their new head coach. Golden was making appx $340,000 at Frisco. Interesting because someone has told us over and over you can't hire good coaches in our price range.

So if money and budgets are issues like we all think. All for a power 5 asst maybe try to hire one that has been successful as a head coach at a lower level D1, D2. Might have experience dealing with budget, travel, recruiting issues that the true Power 5 asst haven’t dealt with.

It's not just getting to the Tourney, it's how his teams execute. Frisco ranked 52nd in offensive efficiency, and 33rd in defensive efficiency. Compare that to Ball States 157 and 301.

The IU budget comparison is not that relevant here . (It let them ditch expensive coaches who were not top notch. We can't afford even a cheap miss...excepting the ludicrous Sherman plan scenario where we find a coach willing to take essentially a one year contract.) Besides, how the result happened has little to do with IU being out coached or equally coached even.
St Mary's has a coach who has been there 20 years and is on a 10 year contract, happy as a clam and one of the best fits in basketball.
St Mary's has good mid major talent, and as an old guy coach who loves the place, and is in a league where there are a regular top team, and have been for years. No surprise they are a hard out. St Mary's is an attractive school which puts them at an advantage among mid majors. A private school which is top notch academics. No football, BB is king. West coast recruiting footprint is fine and they apparently look for international players.
If you see anything like that possible at a MAC school, I do not.

He's a unique success story, and BTW he is a St Mary's story, too. Maybe it's the water out there?
And if you think BSU would have ever have had a chance to attract him as coach when he was looking, or think there are lots of guys out there like him we could find and hire on the cheap, I disagree.
The real money story here is Florida, who has P5 FB to fund their athletics and can afford to run through coaches until they find one that suits them.

Losers look for excuses for why things can't happen. Winners get it done. I'm tired of listening to excuses. We've had winners here. The only things keeping us from winning is incompetence and apathy. The "We're Just Ball State in pathetic Muncie" attitude.
