In a chilly 6 hours of baseball
Cards take game 1 from Western 2-0
Lead 12-5 going into 9th of game 2. Ryan Brown in relief with 9K’s in 3.1 innings so far.
Game over. Cards now 9-1 in conference. Toledo Fri-Sun

So far they're taking care of biz vs the slop of the MAC. Given BSU can only face who is on the schedule I'm definitely content with that and gaining these early conference wins gives them more wiggle room as the season goes. Toledo will be a decent early test, at minimum need a split, ideally would love to take 3 of 4 at their place. The true MAC test will be the 3 series, CMU, Kent St., and Ohio from 4/29 to 5/15.

Only 2/11 MAC teams have overall winning records. Maybe this is normal for a mAC season.
Due to the 4-game series structure, it is almost necessary to take 3/4 from mid and low level opponents and do no worse than split with the upper tier. A tough order when using up pitchers.
The Oregon trip will put a degree of difficulty into the MAC season although the season is relatively meaningless compared to being ready for conference tournament.

Yes as we have seen the past few yrs the season's real success is based on the tournament. Michigan getting in the NCAA over us last yr was a real slap in our & the MAC's face.
