It remains to be seen how successful the new basketball coach will be but the state and conference optics of the hire are about as positive as Ball State has in the last twenty years for basketball.
In only my opinion, and not entirely of her making, but B. Goetz now presides over some of the best top to bottom coaching professionalism in recent university sports history. Regardless of their yearly records, the enthusiasm and presence in the media and community appears to be top notch.

Regardless of their yearly records, the enthusiasm and presence in the media and community appears to be top notch. Great response. Very good optics and getting an IU guy was key to that. Any change would have led to some media, but we've hit the sweet spot statewide, more than local impact.
The media presence has to go WAY beyond the community to have much impact. I can see hundreds of disaffected fans buying more tickets, but while that means we should see some modest gain in revenue, it will be largely local population where there just isn't that much potential for growth.
The optics are good in itself but the coaching change has to lead to substantial improvement on the court to sustain that. And ultimately the AD and Prez want alumni financial support to surge. That remains to be seen over time.
