Explain why game 1 was 7 innings & game 2 9innings? I thought the double headers were supposed to be 7 innings. Do the coaches agree to the games length before the series is played? No. One game is designated as 9 innings, the other 7. MLB plays two 7s

Do the coaches agree to the games length before the series is played? *EDITED for this year's rules: MAC rules state that, in these silly four-game series, that the games must be played in the following order with regards to number of innings, regardless of rainouts, reschedules, etc: 9,7,9,9

You are correct. Last year the format was indeed 9-7-7-9, but not this year. The MAC needs to dump these 4-game series next year. They should not have done it this year.

Thanks for the explanation. Not that it makes sense.

They should not have done it this year. Still don't understand why all MAC are not only doing the 4 game series each weekend, but mid-week OOC. The only exception is BSU. Not that the MAC ever gets an at-large in the NCAA Tourney, but what if for some unexpected reason BSU wins 40+ games, makes it to the MAC final game and loses. The committee has very few OOC comparisons to use for justifying an at-large to a 40+ win BSU squad. Also, getting to 40+ wins in a season is even more difficult when you do not play mid-week OOC games.

It all may make sense when Rich has fresher pitchers for the MAC tournament. We will still play the same 56-58 game season.
Does it really make sense to have a 40 game conference schedule? It may not be his plan but like this approach to combat the poor decision by MAC officials in their conference scheduling.
