In his 1st season as head coach of the Ball State Cardinals, Donan Cruz has been named the AVCA National Coach of the Year, becoming only the 2nd coach in Ball State University history to receive such an honor. The other coach being the late Dr Don Shondell in 1995. Cruz was also the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2021 leading Grand View University to the NAIA National Championship in 2021 with a 26-0 record.
