You can see that both people in the stands are going nuts over the black uni's.

I defy this friend in Florida to identify many schools which have NOT worn alternate colors/styles. Other than Penn State........ It's just the lay of the land today. We still often wear our primary colors. We don't always wear the black uni's, but man, they do look sharp. Does IU or Purdue ever wear anything other than their school colors? I have never seen IU in black basketball, football or volleyball uniforms nor Purdue in anything but black and gold. Cant compare bsu and iu lol

I had a friend from Florida recently call me extremely disgruntled with Ball State basketball, football and women’s volleyball wearing solid black uniforms. He reminded me our colors are Cardinal and White and asked if Ball State has officially changed our school colors. He said if BSU is going to wear black uniforms at homecoming in football, in the NCAA tournament in women’s volleyball and in road games in basketball, BSU should change our nickname to Blackbirds! "Extremely disgruntled" just sounds really strong for a team adding a neutral color (black) to the uniform offerings. At any rate, might your friend's last name rhyme with calls?

Personally, I'm all in on a name change, but Blackbirds wouldn't be high on my choice.
I'm for anything that can get us away from this "chirp" thing, or any continuing reference to being the "fiercest robin-size bird" (even though that was always damn funny when Letterman said it).
The other thing is I've always thought our uniforms kind of suck. Looks like they were bought off the shelf at Big Lots in terms of general design, especially when compared to what you see the major conferences wearing. That's probably a money thing, but I don't know.
When there's really nothing cool about your regular uniforms, at least the black gives the kids something to glom on to.

Thought I was the only one who hated chirp chirp

Not a fan either. I guess I'd marginally prefer "caw caw."
But let's just drop the bird call entirely.

It’s hard to get very loud at a football game trying to yell chirp chirp. I feel like it’s run it’s course

I can’t remember talking to anyone who thought “Chirp Chirp” did anything positive for Ball State athletics. Whoever BSU paid a lot of money to come up with those words made out like a bandit. I am a strong believer in tradition and loyalty. I realize that at times change can be good, but when you grow up with Ball State athletics with our teams being known as the “Fighting Cardinals,” I’m not sure what “Chirp Chirp” does for BSU teams except give them an inferior complex if anything.

Now if we were the Roadrunners and the cheer was "Meep Meep," that would be hilarious.

I think it started organically in the student section. I think it started while I was a student (04-07), but I don’t know that. There were some very active students who tried to get things going. I worked hard on the getting half the stadium to yell “ball” and the other half to yell “state.” I remember the first time we got it going during a commercial break and it continued into our offensive series where Joey Lynch immediately threw a pick.

It’s hard to get very loud at a football game trying to yell chirp chirp. I feel like it’s run it’s course I dont know what they do now, but in my day it started as chirping and turned into yelling as the play got closer. I’d say the difficulty in getting loud is more based on the number of voices. The old geezers are the only ones there and they dont want to be disturbed by loud noises.

Now if we were the Roadrunners and the cheer was "Meep Meep," that would be hilarious. UT-San Antonio already has a heavy "meep meep" presence. Don't know if they do it as a cheer... Honestly, I like the chirp. Better than NJIT's "What the fuck YOU lookin' at???"
