Dear Colleagues and Friends:
I am pleased to share with you that I have selected Jeff Mitchell to serve as our University’s next Director of Athletics.
Jeff has extensive experience in the administration of intercollegiate athletics. He presently serves as the Deputy Director of Athletics at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Jeff previously served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director at Santa Clara University. At both institutions, he also briefly served as the Interim Director of Athletics.
Jeff shares our commitment to the experience and the wellbeing of student athletes. He understands that it is our responsibility to ensure that training and competing for our University as student athletes will have a positive, transformative impact on their growth and their development.
Jeff also has excellent academic credentials. He earned both a B.A. and an M.B.A. at Millsaps College, and he earned a J.D. at the University of Mississippi School of Law. This knowledge will enable Jeff to help us navigate the increasingly complex and dynamic challenges in college sports.
During the interview process, I was particularly impressed by Jeff’s character and integrity. He shares our passion for competitive success and academic excellence, and he embodies our enduring values.
I am grateful to the members of the screening committee who evaluated a strong pool of qualified candidates. I appreciate their assistance in reviewing the application materials and participating in the interview process. Their input guided my decision.
I am also grateful to Ken Bothof, who has served since September as our Interim Director of Athletics. Ken’s steady leadership has enabled our sports programs to excel during this transition.
I am excited to welcome Jeff and his wife, April, and their two children, Harper and Carson, to our University and our community. I will formally introduce Jeff and his family during a program to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, at our Alumni Center.
I am confident that Jeff will help our University extend a legacy of excellence in Ball State athletics—a tradition that instills pride and passion among our students, our graduates, and our fans.
Go Cards!
