How will coach do during MAC Round 2? This is the time that Whitless Teams collapsed! Looking for a strong game against BG. Beating the 8.5 point spread! GO Cards!

Well attendance is much better but has a ways to go to top IU Women vs. Purdue which is a sell out at IU with 17,000 capacity. Would love to see us top 7,000 for men and anything over 300 for the women. I don't really know the figures for the women but I think last year at one of the games the attendance was about the same as it was for the men

mid six attendance guess from you both? I hope thats the case I think I agree this one will not be an impressive big crowd. I know all games are important but this one is not that easy to sell. Hard to be really excited about it.
It does offer the prospect of BSU as a favorite, so loyal fans may look forward to a fun afternoon with a win in prospect, not care too much that it is just another game, and should not be a thriller. The less avid fan may need something special to come out, and a big promotional push.
If students have nothing much to do and can get a free beer maybe we'll get some extra crowd that way.

How is it not easy to sell? BSU 17-7. Playing fun basketball. High energy. BGSU is a good MAC program. If you can’t sell this, then Ball U basketball is in trouble! I think attendance may hit a record number today, only wish I could be a part of it. Will be at Western next week and Toledo at home for last game of year.

You and I and most people here are fired up to see a good BSU team in a conference game. It is true that a good team should get "good" attendance. And a good team does bring in some more students. 6000 is very good. I'm not sure we get that for a "regular" conference game.
Best thing going for it is that Saturday games, especially if they mean something are the best bet to draw a big crowd, including some extras who come in from out of town. Which we managed to do when Emoni Bates brought in extra fans, and it was a national TV game which sounds like something important... We did well there, on a Friday. But Akron was a bigger game than BG ( on a Friday) and although it was an enthusiastic crowd it was far short of 6000.
What I expect is that it is far easier to sell a game with championship on the line or big rival (not sure we have that now in the MAC).
The thing we have lacked since 2000 is that a good team sells more season tickets which swell attendance at the duds on the schedule.

I'm nervous about this game. They came back on us in BG, so they have some confidence with us. Feels like a game in which we could have a lull.

mid six attendance guess from you both? I hope thats the case I got on ticketmaster (just for fun) and pulled up all the available seats to the game today / seating chart map. Granted many seats that are already purchased (season tickets, etc) could be no-shows...but most of the best seats 'available' are the sides and corners only. We shall see, but the table is set for all the reasons already mentioned for the biggest crowd in a VERY long time.

Let's take a look at our free throw shooting for some perspective.
we shoot 67%, our opponents 72%. NCAA average is right around 70%.
How big of a problem is this? Well, we have had 595 FT attempts in 24 games. Let's say we had achieved average FT shooting by raising our percentage 3 points. .03*595 attempts is 18 additional made free throws....18 additional points. About 3/4 of a point per game. Nothing to sneeze at, game in game out in a competitive conference, but not exactly catastrophic either.

Like we might be down and we starting making a run, get to the line, brick the FT’s, then the opponent immediately goes on a run. Not sure if momentum itself is a measurable stat, but dang it seems like we missed some big opportunities earlier in the year for sure. I will also say that making FT’s allows us to get back on defense and set up easier. We’ve done a pretty decent job of getting back on defense and not allowing fast break layups so maybe my observation isn’t a huge deal. It’s something I worry about though from time to time.
