I did hear that Charlie Manson made his way into the NAIA tourney. I’d been wondering where he landed. John Wayne Gacy tried to get into multiple tourneys but sponsors said he was too much of a clown.

Toledo deserved a bit. Taking 8 from the whatever 10 is just wrong.

I think it's official. The selection committee and whatever its criteria are just sucks.

Go Florida Atlantic or shall I say Go FAU NCAA! Most everyone likes the way it's shaken out, except the big conferences and, overall, television. Oh, short-term ratings will be great, but they don't want Florida Atlantic and San Diego State doing this every year. They need the big school name recognition and viewership. It's interesting that Conference USA teams have yet to lose a game in the post-season, but only one was worthy of a spot in the "big dance" despite pretty decent rankings. But, you know, the committee has to squeeze in more teams from the major benefactors.

I think it's official. The selection committee and whatever its criteria are just sucks. Well, if they were accurate would anyone bother watching? The Final Four would be pre-determined.

Do away with the selection committee big waste of time. Take the top teams from each of the conferences and independents and set up the tourney like we did with the one class tourney. Draw teams from a fish bowl. Yes I have not really thought this through.

Draw teams from a fish bowl. Yes I have not really thought this through. One of the keys in the Indiana BB Tourney is geographic grouping. It creates chances for local schools to get a shot at the big guys in the area and it means fans can travel to the sites.
Universal participation has the drawback of more "uninteresting" games to a national TV audience early.
You might still need seeding and could "reward" the high seeds by allowing them to host the sectional rounds in their big gyms with allocation of tickets to the participating teams.
Big conferences have a lucrative conference tourney, enhanced by possibility of more of their teams gaining entry to the dance unless the proposed format can generate TV revenue close to the same.

For all but the most undeserving (like for example EMU, CMU, WMU, and BUGS who didn't make the MAC Tournament) the conference tournaments basically make the NCAA tournament all inclusive. The opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament ARE the conference tournaments. Some leagues get the benefit of receiving at-large bids. Some leagues get way too many. After years of putting too much time into studying it, this is really the only area I find fault with the NCAA Tournament and everyone knows why it happens.
In regard to seeding, anyone who paid attention knew this year's tournament was going to be a free for all. There were no great teams and the bottom was as close to the top as it ever has been. Some of the upsets clearly were not upsets. Still a team under 300 in the NET ranking beating a #1 seed was shocking. If you looked at the computer rankings across the board Purdue was NOT a #1 seed however.
