We all always shit on our D especially our pass d and secondary, Yet just off the top my head we have had Antonio Phillips, Bryce Cosby, Aj, Nic and Amos all in at least camps. Are we overcritical or just dumb

We absolutely do but it got me thinking does everyone? Im not going to lie I dont really watch any other conference much but I know nearly every game is a shoot out or a blowout. Im also willing to het not many other schools regardless of conference can say they put both starting corners and a safety in camps. It cant be Many can it.

No matter how stout the defense, it will eventually break down when your offense is stagnant, can’t sustain drives and/or turns the ball over.

The truth of truths. if Lynch/Neu ran a modern offense that constantly put pressure on defenses vs the 3 yards and a cloud of dust of last year we very likely win the Toledo and Miami games and we’re talking about 3 straight bowl games. (If the offense is more efficient 2 years ago we have a great shot at winning the west again)

Hopefully Coach Stockton is pitching this fact to potential recruits. We’re the new DBU! Haha!

It's not like we get a big lead and force opponents to pass against our strength.
As good as the secondary might be, we let opponents rack up a lot of yards. Maybe that is because we play a bend not break style, but if that's it, we have to stop the opponent in the red zone, and we have to get take away plays.
I don't see teams pressured into playing high risk offense against us, or being stopped cold when the field gets short.

With the change in Dline coach we'll hopefully see some better results there.

With the change in Dline coach we'll hopefully see some better results there. Yeah, the occasional sack or rushed pass into good coverage would have made the scheme work better early in possessions. And in the red zone we were not good enough to stop runs, I remember too many 1st and goal situations where average D just wasn't good enough to expect to hold the score down. Whether the comment above about the D being on the field too much was the main factor or not, it had to make a difference.

We give too much cushion and teams pick us appart with quick outs. Then sucker us deep.
The biggest problem with our defense is the offense however, in my opinion.
We had over 10 minutes difference in time of possession in most games last season. Can't expect the defense to play well when they are on the field that long. Lynch doesn't get it. I'd get pissed at him every time he was on a post game radio interview and would say things like "the offense did its part. The defense needs to step up."
That's after the defense was on the field for 40 minutes of a game.

All of above is true and we also played against some really good QBs last year as evidenced by those MAC bowl victories.

Frankly, he's a guy Neu should have replaced, but, loyalty to the Lynches....
