According to “Volleytalk,” BSU has 4 recruits committed. A 6’11” middle from Ohio, a 6’6” setter from Illinois, a 6’6” outside from Illinois and a 6’5” opposite from Illinois. It looks like a solid recruiting class. They all look like they can help as freshman. Two of recruits were members of USA 19 and under teams last summer. They both were impressive on video. The 6’6” outside has a ton of potential with a very physical body and the wing span of an eagle. The 6’5” opposite reminds me of the great opposite from Hawaii except he is an inch or two smaller. The 6’6” setter was part of a 6-2 offense in high school and is a very impressive setter with great hands. I think he will be very assertive attacking the 2nd ball in a 5-1 offense. The real mystery is the 6’11” middle. Not much video on him except when he was a 6’9” sophomore. He wasn’t real physical then but I’m sure he has improved his physicality the past two years. He has also grown two inches since then and may be 7’0” by the time he arrives on campus next fall. As far as 2024 looks, Ohio State on paper, appears be the team to beat. The rest of the league will be very evenly balanced with Quincy being the most improved team and will win their share of matches next season. Ohio State only loses outside attacker Jack Stevens who had a great match in the MIVA championship against BSU, but the Buckeyes have great depth on the left side. The big question for BSU will be who will replace Kaleb Jenness and Felix Egharevba. It could possibly be two freshman, but keep an eye on red shirt freshman Ryan Bartz, the 2022 Wisconsin Player of the Yeat. Bartz is 6’5” with long arms and can hit with high velocity. Junior 6’6” setter “Kuba” Wiersinski will likely take over setting duties for David Flores, but don’t count out the freshman setter from Illinois who is touted as a great team leader. Junior Bucky Buckholz will start in the the middle and the opposite position is wide open between junior Dyer Ball, sophomore Keow Thompson and the incoming freshman from Illinois. Libero position likely belong to returning starter Lukas Pytlak.

Despite no release on the Ball State sports website, the Cardinals have signed Cameron Gray, a 6’1” libero from Cincinnati. Gray has cat like quickness and may be as quick as any libero in BSU history. Gray is a playmaker on defense and an outstanding passer. Gray completes a recruiting class of 6 that may be as talented as any class in BSU history. Gray joins 6’11” middle Will Patterson who also hails from Cincinnati. This marks the 1st year in history Ball State has landed 2 players from Cincinnati, home of the current 1st place Reds!

Donan Cruz and his staff are likely bringing in the largest and most talented recruiting class in Ball State volleyball’s illustrious history. The setter from Brazil is 6’5”, the opposite from Poland is a 6’7” southpaw and the outside hitter from Virginia is 6’7”. This brings the 2023 recruiting class to a school record 10 recruits!

Agree about Coach Cruz and recruiting network. I think with this new class we will be able to beat the West coast teams on a regular basis and also will continue to be a dominate force in the MIVA

Beach doesn't always convert to boards. Beach does tear you up more, but doesn't always transition indoors.
